PURE MUTTON TALLOW IS ONE OF THE BEST HAND OR ANYWHERE LOTIONS EVER MADE. MY FEET AND HANDS USED TO CRACK OPEN WHERE THEY SWELLED SO MUCH, BUT NOW THEY ARE AS SMOOTH AS A BABYS BEHIND.

MUTTON TALLOW MAKES A GREAT PATCH GREASE BY ITSELF OR WITH OTHER THINGS FOR WARM WEATHER.

THE OLD FORMULA FOR OLD ZIP PATCH GREASE IS:
1 PART MUTTON TALLOW
1 PART WAX
1/2 PART BEES WAX

WHAT I USE IS:
1 PART MUTTON TALLOW
1 PART BEES WAX

MUTTON TALLOW WILL NOT TURN RANCID LIKE OTHER GREASES. IT SMELLS LIKE A DEER, YOU SMELL LIKE A DEER. YOUR RIFLE LOVES IT. EVERYBODYS HAPPY. IN EXTREME COLD WEATHER I USE MINK TALLOW BECAUSE IT WILL NOT HARDEN AT ANY TEMPERATURE.

BE HAPPY
LIVE WELL

Curtis,

The beeswax helps to keep other greases, or oils, from going rancid as well. Olive oil, veg shortening, or unsalted lard also work fine. I like a 3:1 ratio for tallow to beeswax myself. It's a great surface rust preventative, helps keep wooden ramrods flexable, and can be used as leather grease on mocs, leather shoes, and boots. AND..., it's non-toxic in case the youngin's get into it. It's very very cheap to make at home, AND if you really want something identical to "wonder lube" you can add food grade wintergreen oil.

Where does one get mutton tallow????

I live in the North east and I cannot seem to find the stuff.

I wanted to make some of those lube pills I've been reading about.
