I just got a Hornandy Lock & Load AP, mail order. The manuals in the box are dated 1998, so I think the press has been on the shelf for almost 10 years. I know this press needs an update for the case feeder. Is there anything else about this press that is different from the current production?

The folks at Hornady were very handy with various questions when I had a small 'user' problem with my Powder Measure. Give 'em a call M-F...800 338-3220

if you got it from wideners send it back.... and bug them until you get the refund. it took them 1 month to refund me. needless to say they don't get my business anymore. they sold me it as "a newer version". i was pretty disappointed when i got it, so i sent it back. they said they didn't know it was that old. i ended up getting one locally.

the subplate and priming systems have been updated. the subplate allows you to attach the casefeeder. the priming system includes new safety features.

check out grafs.com for the newer presses. They don't charge any shipping so you have to factor that into their cost.

or check out.

Differences for presses with serial numbers under 7000:

1. Subplate - no provision for casefeeder
2. Primer feed system - Doesn't work too good
3. No grease fittings

Differences for serial numbers above 10000:

1. Addition of case activated powder drop that's capable of accepting pistol case mouth expanding inserts. Update of case activated powder drop design.

I agree with hapi, send it back to whom you bought it from and get a refund or send it back to Hornady saying you just bought it and you wanted the current version.

Dave

Thanks. My serial # is 01819. I will talk to Hornady and see if they will help me, second option is to deal with Widners.

There are also upgrades on how the powder drop operates. One downside is the way the pistol insert is now being vended separately, otherwise I am just about ready to add a new one to my bench along side the older one (which I've updated with new priming system).

Jeesh Joe,

I've had my Hornady for 7 years and my serial number is 6000 higher than the one they sent you. I sure as heck would NOT accept that press. It's oudated and obselete now.

the pistol metering insert isn't required. the rifle version works for pistol and rifle. get the micrometer insert for it and your good to go. with the micrometer, it's easy to re-set to previous loads.

send the press back. as dave.... says, it's obsolete.

I bought the old style pistol micrometer insert at my local Gander Mtn yesterday (i was very suprised to find one)... so they are out there, just very hard to find
