Hey guys,

While I'm not really new to pistols or guns in general, I've considered myself a rifleman and never really got serious about the finer points of pistol shooting.

I was just curious to know if a person's grip on a pistol had anything to do with accuracy??? I know grip can affect reliability, but does varying grip pressure change anything in the way of the accuracy dynamic?

Any help is much appreciated!

Most definitely your grip, how you hold you pistol, trigger finger position, thumb position, steadyness of grip pressure and other factors affect accuracy.

bullseyepistol.com/ (http://www.bullseyepistol.com/) has some of the best information on shooting a handgun accurately. The section on perfecting technique, the Army Marksmanship Manual and the error analysis selection will give you invaluable information. Though Bullseye is shot single handed the principles still are the same for a 2 handed shot.

You + your gun = unique biomechanical shooting machine.

That's a way of saying that there are ways that are more, and less right, but there's no One True Way To Do It, Of Which Failure To Apply Will Result In Disaster and Scorn.

To simplify matters to their essentials, a grip needs to supply the following features:

1) A stable, solid, sound and complete grasp of your handgun
2) Promotes ease and correctness of alignment of the sights with the eye
3) Correctly deal with recoil
4) Is consistent and repeatable. Slight variations of your grip will disrupt your expected eye/sight/target geometry.
