I've read the information on an old TFL thread (http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=118313&highlight=compstock) that was quite informative about the compstock.
The copstock (besides being folding and pistol grip) used a much different method to absorb recoil that I think would eliminate some of the problems folks reported in the above thread. Instead of the stock collapsing, the stock remains stationary and the gun itself moves back about an inch.
Seems like it might work, but on the other hand the trigger and trigger guard are now moving while your hand is stationary..from what I can tell.
