Yea, I've been scratching my head over these questions for a few days now. I was wondering if anyone here could help me out.
First question: Can the M1911 rifle take the modern going GP11 ammunition? I happen to have a brick laying around and it needs a gun.
Second question: what is the approximate worth of one with the metal and bore in good condition (though the wood is scratch and chipped like any other swiss gun I've see) but the magazine doesnt seem to work right. Does anyone know if the Swiss M1911 straight pull rifle can take the magazines meant for the K31?
I dont have either gun in hand right now, so it makes the question most definitely harder to figure out
-Thanks in advanced!

Yes, the 1911 cartridge was made for the Model 1911 rifle, then continued through the Model 1931 era. Use of GP 11 ammo is not recommended in the Model 1889 rifle, though.
No, the Model 31 magazine will not fit the Model 11 rifle, and could not in any reasonable way be made to do so.

I've heard K31 mags won't exchange between K31s. Haven't tried it with my rifles. The mags all do have the rifle serial number on them.
K31s shouldn't break 200.00. Gp11s go for about 200-250.00 on the auction sites.
Everyone needs a couple of K31s. Mine are a 1936 and a 1945. I won the Texas vintage Military Rifle Championship at Terrell last fall with the 1945 and G11 ammo.

Exceptional website! Thank-you for that link! I just spent the past 40 minutes looking around there, and have learned more in these 40 minutes than I have learned over the past month by pecking around here, there and by chance anywhere. Thanks!

There are several threads on the 1911 in the rifle forum if you search there. IMHO the 96/11 and 1911 rifles are among the finest ever made for any military, right up with the Greek Mannlicher-Schoenauers. Prices are going to be $300 to $450 unless you get very lucky.

All those Swiss rifles have a problem in that they do not handle gas well. As long as the ammunition was high quality (what else from the Swiss?) there was no problem. But with some folks making ammo, reloading many times, then trying to out do the Magnums, problems could crop up. So always wear eye protection when shooting any rifle, but that foes especially for the Swiss straight pulls.

Jim, what's your source on that? I've heard that of the early Vetterlis, but not of the S-R's.
But certainly, the 1911's not the ideal platform for hot rodding or weird handloads. The Swiss rifles like what they like.

My source is getting a blast of gas back in the face from a split case in some reloads I bought in a moment of stupidity many years ago. Shooting glasses saved my eye, but my forehead got hot air. I had a K-31 sniper rifle long before the recent imports, and after studying the bolt, I can see how it happened.
I have long since given up shooting any reloads other than my own - that way if something goes wrong, I know the name of the SOB who screwed up.
