All i see (mainly) are the 5, 10, and 30 round mags for the 5.56x45 cal. I have a WASR-3 by the way...
They are obviously rare and all I've seen are the chinese mags (75 rnd. drum i think) that would take some converting (so I've heard).
I know it would be spendy, because i've seen those 7.62x39 drums go for quite a bit moulah...
But since they make 45 rnd mags (even in waffle pattern) for the common calibers (7.62, 5.45), why not 5.56???
I'm sure someone out there put 2 sar-3/wieger hi-cap mags together into a really-hi-cap mag and came out with success...
I am curious and wouldnt mind checking into something a little under the "mainstream" level...

Seriously, the larger mags for .223 AK's aren't common because the military market isn't quite there at this time. That I'm aware of, the only military of respectable size that uses a 5.56 AK is the Polish armed forces, that I'm aware of.

I'm sure if you had the money to try it,it could be done.
Take a Bata C drum and use a Weiger mag as a tower.
Often though about trying it on the old Chi-com 120rd
AR drums. I have a few of them,so maybe some day I'll
give it a try.

I used to think about standardizing strictly with 5.56mm ammo until I ran into 5.56mm AK's. It ridiculous how expensive 5.56mm AK mags are. Plus, no 5.56mm AK mag can interchange with others!!!:what:
I thought it was stupid so I decided to stick with their native calibers, especially since 5.45mm magazines are so damn CHEAP!!!. AIMSurplus has used Bulgy's 5.45mm mags for 6 bucks a piece.
BTW, there ARE 45rd 5.56mm magazines made by Molot in Russia for 5.56mm VEPR's. When will they ever come into this country? I don't know.:(
Here's some pics of 5.56mm VEPR's and mags.

The 5.45mm Soviet Molot RPK mags are MUCH more curved than 5.56mm.

I've got one of those 45 round magazines. But it is sitting in the display case like a collectors item. :)

I converted my Saiga .223/5.56 to use Galil Orlite 35 round mags. They cost $10 each for the mags at CDNN a few months ago. Up to $15 now. Not bad...
