Since the Nikon Monarch UCCs were on closeout, I picked up a 6.5-20 AO model with the BDC reticle. I figure that, at worst, I can just find a load that shoots well in my rifle and make a range card of what distance each reticle represents for that load. Hopefully they will be reasonably rounded distances. 100, 200, 300, 500 would be nice, but for prairie dogs, as long as I know the reticles are (hypothetically) 100, 215, 305, and 465 for my load, it should be doable to get on-target with one of the circles.

I'll update you when I try it out.

that's exactly the sale that I'm looking at....

a Nikon Monarch 3x9x40 for $218!!!!!

Sounds to good to be true.

But only with the BDC reticle. Which to my untrained eye, looks like a simplified (Y-axis only) Mil. Dot.

So I'm wondering, what's up?

Was the BDC so unpopular that they discontinued it?

If there's no issue with the BDC, I'd like to take advantage of this sale, as it seems like a smokin' deal.

The Nikon Monarch UCC scopes are going on sale all over the place because Nikon has revamped the lineup and dealers are wanting to get rid of the old so they can bring in the new. We have the same thing going on here.

I've a BDC scope on my 7MM. It works great if you know and understand your rifle's balistics. If you don't, it's of no use to you. I used it the first time out to tag a Coyote at 400 yards... worked great for me. I like them.
