Just thought that I'd try this out....
I have been learning about and shooting a lot of handguns in the past year or so. Thanks to THR for most of my knowledge. :D
I am now being bit by the rifle bug. The only problem is that I don't know anyone with any rifles and I don't have anywhere to shoot them either. I'd like to try out an AR, AK, and others that are similar. I want to buy or trade for a rifle but I have no idea where to start (or what I really want) and I learn a lot more by just shooting than I do by posting another newbie thread and hassling everyone for advice. People can tell you what they think you need all day long and that can all be trumped by holding the right one for 2 seconds. :cool:
I have a few nice pistols that I would gladly bring along and would definitely buy the ammo and maybe even lunch. :o

John, not sure about the ranges you have in your area there, but where I am there are several gunshop/ ranges that will rent them to you to try....
Maybe you could make a trip down here and I'll show you the shop/ range where I go....they have a bunch to rent out and try. The bad part is it's a indoor range and it's not that much fun to shoot a rifle indoors....:banghead: but you can get the general feel for the rifle.....I want to rent the MP5 they have:evil:

That sounds good. The range I normally go to doesn't allow high powered rifles of any kind. There is one other range in the area, I'll call them to see if they have anything for rent. Good idea!
Bushwhacker, I'll shoot you an email to touch base. I might try to come down that way, a buddy says that there is a shop down there that is like the wal-mart of AK's and AR's. :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek: :eek:

Not sure how far you are from Clemson, SC, but you are welcome to meet me at the range sometime if you want. I'm all out of AK's right now, but AR's, I've got.

a big thanks to ny for the offer but Clemson is a 2 hour drive one way. :( I can get to Charlotte in the same amount of time (where the AK and AR "superstore" is).

The guy that told me about this is also one of the biggest idiots I have ever met so we'll see. :scrutiny: It might be your average gun store but to this guy its the US armory. I'll let ya'll know as soon as I can get the name and maybe address.

I have access to a small private range here in Hickory... good out to 200, 250 in the winter... Enought room for 4 shooters comfortably (and safely)... I'll check the calender and throw out some dates... I need to practice for this year's groundhog shoot in Vale... If you have never shot in it, it is the best local match around & attracts shooters from coast to coast and well beyond!

I think the name of the store that is supposed to be a AK and AR super store is "Shooter's Express" it's in Belmont, North Carolina ofF I85 south at exit 27 Dean is the manager and Bill is the gunsmith both good people to deal with and don't treat a newbie with an attitude......;) They have a bunch of AR's and the last time I was there also had a few AK's

I am outside city limits but I have neighbors that are 100 feet away and my lot is only 1/2 acre. I don't think a long range will fit... :banghead:
