WASHINGTON -- D.C. police arrested a man who was apparently shooting in the air Monday afternoon.

The situation started around 16th and E streets in Northeast shortly after noon Monday. Investigators said the 26-year-old man appeared to be shooting in the air, or possibly at apartments.

News4's Brian Mooar reported that an officer fired one shot in the man's direction. The man then dropped the gun and started to undress.

The man was taken to a hospital for evaluation. He lives about a block away from the incident.

Bullet holes were reported in several cars and doorways. The gun is described as a WWII-era assault rifle.

The man was arrested without incident. He was being treated for a dog bite after a police K-9 was sent in to grab him.

Watching the report on the news, I found it funny the way they emphasized he had a camouflage bulletproof vest on, as if the camo makes him even more dangerous. :scrutiny:

What the heck is that?

Cop to boss, "Yes, Sir, I fired one warning shot in the suspect's general direction."

Boss to cop, "Well done, Officer. Here's a replacement round."

This morning's Compost reported that he had an M1 carbine with a sawed-off stock. Not an M2.

According to today's Washington Post, there were numerous shots fired by a police officer - they missed - and the dog bit a police officer, but didn't break the skin.

But, wait, I thought nasty guns like that were illegal in D.C. How did he get it (the loony, not the cop)? Obviously, D.C. needs more gun laws.
