Ye Maverick is a good shotgun. The only accessory it needs now is ammo.
After say, 40 cases, you'll know what YOU need to up performance, if anything....

I need a pistol grip .. Its going to be my truck gun .. Not a sport shooting gun .. Defense only .. I have quite a few shotguns for practice and sport shooting .. I am looking for a pistol grip maybe folding stock .. I already have TONS of ammo

Get a knoxx top-folder. I hear great things about them and they are supposed to reduce recoil quite a bit.
Don't get a PG only, it's fun for the range, but when you NEED your shotgun, you are really going to wish you had a stock.
The maverick 88 is a fine gun and all of the 500 stocks will fit it. However, the maverick has a simplified forend, so aftermarket forends won't work without the entire mossberg forend tube and action bar assembly.

This Maverick 88 went to Iraq with a Military Police unit along with a couple others suitably modified.
Maverick shotguns are assembled in Eagle Pass Texas from parts that are made just across the border in Mexico.
Another term for the guns, not intended as derogatory,is "Mexican Mossbergs".
Mavericks differ from Mossberg 500s by having a trigger housing mounted sliding crossbolt safety instead of the top tang safety.
They also use a cheaper to produce one piece molded forearm action tube assembly instead of the Mossberg three piece action tube-forend-action tube nut.
Except for the stripped receivers, trigger group assemblies and Mossberg top tang safety assembly, all other parts are interchangable between the guns including barrels.
If you must use a pistol grip on your Mossberg or Maverick, or any pumpgun for that matter, this Pachmayer assembly is the only way to go.
All other pistol grips I have ever tried on a number of different shotguns became painful to use after five shots or less of any kind of load that could be considered effective.
This gun also features a Pachmayer forend mounted on a Mossberg 500 6.75" action tube assembly.
These guns were built for the purpose of door and gate breeching.
They were further modified in Iraq, one was fitted with a duckbill choke and others had the barrels further shortened.
They remained there after the unit came home.

I've been looking for an excuse to post this. I got bored one night and drilled a hole in my foregrip. the flash light has a clip on it, slides in and out easily but stays attached and doesnt move when i rack it. a little bit bubba'd, but its my beater gun so its ok.

Got mine at Academy when they were 137.00. Been a real good gun. I cut the 28" barrel down to 22" to serve as a turkey/ HD gun. I hear the Knoxx stocks really make an improvement on recoil. Put some Allen glow sights on it and it is dead on. Nothing wrong with a gun made in Texas.

I've already got the Knoxx SpecOps...trying to find a Maverick. WalMart's are sold out of them, at $158. Gander has a 500 with porting for a hair over $200, so maybe I'll just go that route instead.

Great gun, economical and reliable. I've put mine through heavy use and have not had a single malfunction.

You would not be buying stuff for another gun and hoping for the best.....accessories WILL fit both guns.
I have a Mav88 and absolutely love it......great bang for the buck and the 500 series really has nothing on it.

I have a Mossberg 500A and my buddy have an 88. We took both to the range on thursday and both are %100 reliable. Both guns have have 1000's of rounds through them and have had 0 problems with either of them.

Maverick Arms is "owned & operated" by Mossberg. I have both a Maverick 88 and an OLD Mossberg 500A. Primary differences are the safety location, and how the fore-end/action bar(s) is made. All other parts will swap easily.

Many a ruffed grouse met their maker at the hands of my 88 :)
Best gun for the money I ever owned....... till it was stolen :(
You can get em at Wal-Mart for $159.00, and I couldn't really tell any difference between it and a 500, other than 88's don't seem to come with any different stocks.

I believe that Mavericks are the best bang for the buck shotguns made today.YMMV.tom.

Hahaha why post in my thread if you have nothing worth saying?
Because, you dont need a pistol grip. A shotgun with a regular stock is superior in almost every way. The only thing a pistol grip has over a regular sized stock is size/concealability. I dont disagree on a folder though, that would probably be your best bet instead of a pistol grip while still being managable in your truck.
Although, if you do decide to get a pistol grip, I hear the "birds head" grips are the best for shooting from the hip.
Don't you know that you can be burned at the stake for asking that around here!!!
No, I wasn't aware of that.
