What is going on in California regarding the ammunition tax? I don't live in CA but the situation sounds so appalling I just have to know what's going on. Any info will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Thankfully AB 992 died in the Assembly 6-6-03.
AB 602 authored by Koretz from West Hollyweird is basically the same bill. It is still listed as active at the CA legislative website info dated 2-27-03. We need to keep an eye out for this one.

There's another ammo tax bill? How on earth does Koretz get away with this crap? If nobody in the CA legislature cares about gun rights, does anyone at least care about fair legislative procedure? If this next one fails, will he just shell another bill?
Ok, time to :barf:

I think this D.A. will try it every year he's in office. He might get it sooner or later if the Democrats decide that they'd rather have majority rule instead of the 2/3 need to pass new taxes.

I am glad that the ammo tax died. Now what is going to keep them from deciding to go with a 15 cent ammo tax next year.
How on this green earth do they manage to keep coming up with rediculous bills and waste my tax money? No wonder CA is over 30 billion in debt!!!!!

Of course. Did you even need to ask? The leftist extremists won't be satisfied until every last law-abiding American citizen has been disarmed. Knowing they can't simply rescind the Second Amendment, they're forcibly contenting themselves with destroying it one law, one regulation, one rule at a timeāand one tax, too.
No wonder CA is over 30 billion in debt!!!!!
The actual number is closer to $40,000,000,000.

Eventually a version of this bill WILL pass.
My suggestion to all California Members is to buy RELOADING equipment and learn how to load your own.

Apparently you didn't read the wording of the bill. That is a ten cent fee/tax per component. That mean ten cents per peice of brass, every bullet, and primer. These bills will effectively stop reloading in California. It will be cheaper to buy ready made commercial ammo. Hopefully Koretz doesn't go anywhere with his back up bill. Then we wait until next year.

from AB602
"For purposes of this section, "munition" means a projectile
with its fuse, propelling charge, or primer fired from a weapon, or
any of the individual components thereof. "Munition" does not
include a BB or a pellet commonly used in an air rifle or pistol.
(d) The fee provided for in this section may not be imposed upon
any munition purchased by any peace officer required to carry a
firearm while on duty, or by any governmental law enforcement agency
employing that officer."

Well...I missed this. Looks like I will either be ordering through the mail or making runs out to Nevada.

I'm willing to bet Davis will spend $1 billion on technology to close our borders and keep evil gun owners from crossing back and forth at will like the illegal aliens do.:neener:
On second thought, that's not really funny at all...

Already got my casting set up and have 600+ pounds of ingots made and another 100+ pounds ready for smelting. I don't believe I'll participate in this tax when they get it through. Also, there some really good buffets in Reno and I can stock up while I'm there.
