I just have to vent...

I emailed a bunch of my friends a link to the petition against H.R. 1022. One of my friends emailed back and said, "I'm not sure I agree with you. I think automatic weapons should be illegal in the US, just like they are in every other civilized country"

This is a guy who grew up in Alaska, moved to California for college, got warped by all the idiots there and is now very liberal, BUT goes hunting with bolt-actions.

First of all, automatic weapons ARE illegal (with very few exceptions) and let's see him site the vast number of crimes committed with automatic weapons! Secondly, IF he was referring to semi-autos, and thinks manually loaded weapons such as pump-actions are ok, how the **** does that make any sense? Isn't a 12ga pump action pretty easy to saw down to gangsta style, conceal under a coat, and use to mow-down a bunch of people?

point out to him that the bill doesnt have anythign to do with MG. and that MG have been heavily regulated since 1934, and then new production for civi's banned in 86. ( point out taht despite ever growing gun restrictions crime rises. no school shootings before 1934... just saying ;) )

the only way to combat the lies and misleading of the antis is to tell people the truth. and seperate "assault rifle" from what it really is. "scary looking" this is america. were supposed to judge on value, not looks right?

*I* am very liberal in many regards, and constantly run into these kinds of attitudes with my liberal friends. If I can do so, my solution is to take them shooting and educate them - or, if not, appeal to their beliefs (there is no inherent reason why being progressive politically means being an anti), since I speak that language.

Sometimes it works, sometimes they just don't want to learn. :rolleyes:
