Evolutionary dead ends?

Look at the following exploded views. Which one would you most appreciate having the ability to care for without the factory or a gunsmith on retainer?

Many 1911 critics say old slabsides was fine in its day! I look at this trio of prentenders and see little added but mechanical complexity and/or take it or leave it materials "innovations" such as plastic and alloy, both of which can be had in spades in a 1911 if desired.

Oh, boy! Another "my favorite gun is bestest" thread; we haven't had one of those for minutes!

;) :D

(PS: The P-220, with its lone, red, x-shaped component, obviously has the simplest construction. ;) Edit: Never mind, the piccie's up now. :uhoh: )

Uh, you realize that the Glock exploded view is of a blank firing replica, right?

The Glock is easier to deal with than the 1911. Fewer parts, simpler, trouble free parts replacement.

The Sig 220 is more of a pain, because it uses roll pins. But it rarely needs parts replaced, and has fewer parts than the 1911.

Without recycling, we'd have been done over at TFL a long time ago.:D

But I do love diagrams of all of these delicate little tactical springs in the triggers and other parts on the non-1911s.

I thought it looked odd, I will supplant it with something else. I like the Glock detail strip but I don't find it "easier" just different.

The Glock detail strip may not be easier, but parts replacement IS.

The 1911 is a good design, as is the Glock.

With years of experience shooting/cleaning/maintaining both... I do prefer the Glock.

Hmmm... wonder how many more parts JMB would have had to put it to make the design work:scrutiny:

Kidding!!:neener: or am I

PS The sig counts it's 2 grip screws on each panel as 2 parts and the 1911 tries to cheat by claiming it's two are only one. I think that should really be the deciding point of the whole debate.

Well thank you all very much to hell and back!
I've been carrying and shooting SIG's for fifteen years and not one of you bothered to tell me I needed a factory or gunsmith on retainer!
Guess it was just blind luck that I survived all that time.
Of course I have had to send a couple guns back to the factory.
But they were both 1911's. :D

And I'm crazy about my 1911's.
But I'll carry a SIG, thankyou.:D

CRAP!

Can't figure out why it's not showing up.

Well, anyways, it's a Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357 Mag. revolver.

Mag Catch - based on 1911? I think the mag catch is based on the Borchardt which spawned the Luger. But I could be wrong...

1911.

IT'S THE ONLY ONE LISTED THAT FITS MY HAND AND HAS A DECENT TRIGGER.

Replacement parts and magazines for it can be had damn near anywhere, and I know how it works, and I can detail strip it with naught but a mere screwdriver.

It's also thinner than the others listed, and has a better trigger than the others listed.

The GLOCK. . .

Maybe a better question is "Which particular model have you needed a gunsmith for?"

Any odds on the answers?

nah man.... P99... five parts!
reciever
main spring
slide
barrel
striker assembly....

when one fails, just replace it..

joke there... honestly, the P99, for field cleaning, is the easiest I know... just pull the take down slide down and pull the slide off... clean exposed surfaces, then preform take down in reverse...

I've got a Sig P220 that's pushing 20 years old and runs like a top.

I've got a four-year-old Kimber Pro Carry that requires a recoil spring change every 800 rounds and needed the slide stop filed down before it would stop gagging on loaded mags.

I LOVE my 1911s. But I trust my Sigs.
