my father owns one too and its the same way for me. its not that im shy of recoil as i shoot 30-06 out of my garands and quite a bit of 44mag

I suggest either picking up, or ordering a Limbsaver recoil pad for your 1187.

I don't have the 1187, but, I have a couple of 1100s. These shotguns are the softest shooting 12 gauge shotguns that I have ever shouldered.

You didn't say. . . are you getting 'kicked' by 2-3/4" or are they 3" shells???

Either way, pick up a Limbsaver pad.

What type of ammunition are you shooting? Magnum Buckshot, Slugs, and 3in Magnums will kick quite a bit.

If it is just target or standard field loads, the stock on an 11-87 might fit you wrong. This is probably the #1 reason for uncomfortable recoil with standard 2.75in shells.

Be it 2 3/4" or longer shells, Id agree that the limbsaver pad will take most ,if not all of the sting out of the felt recoil. One of the best pads I've seen on the market.

That's odd as most folks will tell you that the 1100/1187 is one of the softest recoiling scatterguns they've ever fired. Felt recoil is very subjective. Try a better recoil pad (Limbsaver or Kickeez) and/or a shooting vest with a built-in recoil pad.

Check your form. While an added pad is a good idea, look at your mount. Does the gun fit you? I cannot remember if Dave covered these aspects (I suspect that he did. Search is your buddy.) in the Shotgun 101's stickys. Check there for more info.
