Minihaha here, not really a newbie-been lurking around with not much to say...
A gun store near me has a Ruger sp101 9mm with a Hydra-ported 2" barrel for sale.
Asking price is $495, seems negotiable.
Comes with 24 moon clips and original cardboard box and paperwork, also paperwork from Hydraport.
Asking purchase advice-imput.
Thanks, Pat

Yes leave this gun right in that store. But send me a phone number or a website to this store :)

Porting doesn't seem necessary on that gun/caliber combination, IMO, but if the work was done well I suppose it can't hurt. It's not an outrageous price, but see if you can talk it down a little bit.
I got this one unported last year for $325 OTD.

Gosh I really want one of these but they are like nonexistent in my neck of the woods. Can't even find them on gunbroker or gunsamerica. Or I am looking at the wrong times.

Why won't Ruger put this caliber back in production, there is certainly enough demand for it. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could find one.

I think it's not an extraordinary deal, but a decent one. These things are collector driven and good shooters are getting very hard to find. I worked on getting mine for a long time here in California as we can't get one shipped in so you're limited to what's already here. I'm glad I got it and I love it, sent it off to Gemini and it's even better now.

Depends on how bad you want it in 9mm. You are paying about $100 for the porting, which as already mentioned is kind of useless on a 9mm.
The 9mm version of the SP101 is not very often encountered, so if you really want it, then it is not a bad price, but not a deal either. Maybe offer $75 or $50 less in cash pointing out you really don't like the porting, blah blah. Blasts your night vision, etc.
If the 9mm is not important then you can find a used .357 SP101 for far less than $400.
Personally I would pass and just get a cheaper .357 version which is very versatile. If I found a 9mm without the porting then I might be tempted for $400 just due to scarcity. But the porting is a negative for me. YMMV.

I wanted a SP-101 3" in 9mm for a long time, I have taken a S&W 642 and had a S&W 940 cylinder fitted to it, The cool thing about this is that the cylinder assembly fits in my S&W 60-4. I now have the 9mm cylinder installed in my 60 and with the adjustable sights, it is a great gun.

I missed out on an offer of a basic SP101 in 9 for $400. Now, I'm glad I didn't buy it, other than for aberration value. It's an odd duck. If you want a 9, get a semi-auto like all the LEO's have. The .357 is still regarded as the real deal, and the .357 Sig, which is basically a 9 with more powder behind it so it can "penetrate more" is what the Gov is using more and more. An armory that includes moon clips is a loon. Don't... If you want a revolver, get a GP100 in 3". If you want 9, get an autoloader.

There is nothing wrong with moon clips. To each his own, my S&W 940 works great and I've never had a problem with the moon clips, plus the reload is very fast.:D

If Ruger did bring back the SP-101 in 9 mm, I sure would take a close look.
