Greetings All---I have a 2nd generation Colt single action with a massive ammount of hammer pull. Way to much to do any SASS type shooting. So I am looking for ideas as to how to reduce the hammer pull. Thanks Ronin

Welcome to The High Road... :)

By hammer pull, do you mean the effort to cock the hammer?

That would probably depend on the strength of the hammer/main spring. But first remove the stocks, than the 3 screws that hold the backstrap to the frame and trigger guard. There are 2 at the top, and 1 on the bottom toward the front. At this point you can remobe the backstrap.

Next, loosen the screw that holds the mainspring to the trigger gurard and swing the spring to the side.

Cock and release the hammer several times to make sure nothing is causing the hammer to bind. If there is you may need the services of a Single Action gunsmith.

If there isn't a binding problem a new, lighter mainspring may solve the problem. Brownell's offers a selection at www.brownells.com.

Brownells also has a free Single Action specific cataog. You can order one through their website.
