To save on shipping, I seem to recall that Armaloy is in DFW somewhere. Another option is using one of the sprayy and bake on polymer finishes as sold by Brownells. We have a gunsmith here that charges $40 or so. You can do it yourself or check around for someone in your area.
For an inexpensive HC plater, I really like the work that Bob Coogan does.

SS Chromium M, by Metalife Industries, Inc. (Box 5 Mong Avenue, Reno, PA 16343; 814-436-7747) --
My absolute favorite. An extremely hard coating, which demonstrates virtually no surface buildup to interfere with tolerances. Thus, I can have an "action job" done, then have the entire gun plated and fully expect everything to remain the same for virtually forever. SS Chromium M, too, is white, but nearly impervious to moisture, chemicals and abrasion. If its brightness bothers you, then bead-blasting will tone SS Chromium M down to a dull gray.
Cheapest supplier of hard chrome finishes I have seen and does a GREAT job.

Second the recommendation for Tripp. I sent my slide and barrel to them regular mail with $8 insurance on May 28, it reached them the 7th of June, sent back to me the 9th. How's that for fast? Tripp has the best prices, they answer their e-mail in a timely manner -- Virgil himself handles the mail and it's quality work. My other gun will be sent to him when I have the cash. Very happy customer....:D
The others come well recommended too but prices are high and don't expect to see your gun for awhile...:uhoh:

He and his wife Melody have just recently bought Affordable Firemarms and have relocated about a mile west along Pipeline from where Affordable was.
Ordered a Buckmark Stnd the other day and was talking when he pointed out a 1911 he had hard chromed. Didn't look at up close, but did look sharp in the case.
Don't know him real well as of yet, but seems nice enough, honest, and enjoys guns.
Tell him Steve (currently w/ CZ40B) and a getting the Buckmark from him passed this on.
Thanks
Steve

Put one of Brownells Teflon coatings on one of my EGs a few years ago. Took a few hours to do, cost about $20. I stripped the metal down to the white, but I think someone told me that you could apply it over the blue, as long as the metal was properly cleaned. I was very pleased with the result. I have had some wearing beneath the slide rails, but other than that it has performed remarkably well.

If you do go the spray can or airbrush route, it's best to blast it first and make sure the gun is totally clean and degreased.

Armalloy was in Ft Worth on Dupont St, Dumont St., something like that. I don't know if they are still in business or if they still do guns, but the ones I have seen done by them were all well done.
