I have always been curious about these guns . I heard they were made by a company similar to AMT , which wasnt that great . Just for fun can anyone tell me how the recoil was compared to say a
desert eagle 44 magnum , and were they reliable ? Thanks

The Auto Mag was a very poorly engineered pistol. Sooner or later, the pin that rotates the bolt shears off. Installing a later model bolt, etc. does not cure the bad design problems.
Another downside is the terrible shape of the backstrap. The designer had very little imagination and the external shape of the grip frame is the way it is to accommodate the hamer spring. Bass-ackwards.
Recoil is nothing difficult. Reliability rests with your skill at handloading and case forming.
There were about three manufacturers. It wasn't the fabrication of the pistol that gave trouble, it was the poor engineering.
This dog is strictly a collector's trap.
My opinion based on my experiences. I know shooters who liked it. Their hands were a great deal larger than mine.

Thanks for the info . I had a feeling that they werent a great made gun , due to the fact that every amt type gun i have shot has been poor. And also the fact that the Auto mag went out of production .

Yes, I've fired both the .44 and the .357 versions.

Recoil wasn't bad, but it's a relatively long and heavy gun.

The bad part would be supplying ammo for them.

I have often wondered the same thing. What would it be like to fire it????

I have an unfired, new in the original shipping box and mailing box with ALL of the paperwork Pasedena Automag that I peridiocally take out of the safe and wonder about.

Some day I will buy a shooter automag just to understand the problems and to enjoy shooting it.
