It seems that every Remington Black finish gun I'v bought likes to rust.I finally found a lube that stops it.Valvoline SynPower penetrating lube.I'v been useing it almost 2 years now.To use take gun apart, clean&degrease, let dry then spray it on(I soak it) let excess drain off wipe it down then let it dry a day or two Then use as needed. It also lubes inside non gummy.I'v got it on 6-870s and 1-700.

Good tip. However, I own three 870s and an 1100 with the "black" finish. One is an HD gun; three are hunting guns that see considerable outdoor use during season (including rainy days). None show signs of rust. When I clean, I do go heavy on the CLP and let it soak in though. When guns get wet, they are dried and cleaned when I get home.

All these guns were bought used. Also friends have at least 11, all guns liked too rust before useing the Valvoline lube.Must be the Florida weather.

Thanks for the tip. Some Guides I know melt wax into the exterior of Expresses.

6 870s? My kind of guy....

True, salt air is more corrosive. I used to live on the Gulf and was more conscientious then about caring for knives, guns, fishing reels.

Actually, that reminds me. Was down in Destin fishing last month. I flushed my reels with freshwater, but I do still need to disassemble and lube.

That's why you get the Mariner when you live in FL :)

Liberal amount of CLP will fix everything. ;) Did you try CLP and your 870 still rusted? It also depends on where you're keeping it. If it's in the basement where the moist air tends to stick to metal then unless you immerse it in oil it'll rust sooner or later.

These were all used guns.I have used CLP,did not seem to stop the rust.It seems like the black finish draws&holds moisture

Another good tip is one of those big dessicant packs in your gun box or safe.
