Hey Northern Virginians... It's time to shoot!

I'd like to go to Bull Run for some shotgunning, but the weather has been so freaking unstable that I think at this point we'd be a lot better just hitting the NRA range.

Anyone have any preferences for when?

Let's hear it...

Hey Mike,

Would you be interested in some NC folks coming up and making it a full day on the weekend, to possibly include a picnic and some pistol shooting as well? Maybe put together a "Southeast Showdown" or something like that?

If you're up for that, I know that I can make it up there the last weekend of the month. Love to bring my family.

I'm in. This Fri-Sat is bad. Next Saturday is bad. I think the entire following weekend is out. I don't have too many open weekends until August, but only a couple there as we have a baby due at the end of that month. Weekdays typically work better for me.

BTW, I'm jonesing to hit Bull Run myself. I shot Trap for the first time last spring/summer and loved it. I haven't had a clear day available to go this year.

I'm up for either. I guess i'd prefer bull run as i keep talking about trying clays, maybe this would get me to do it.

My schedule is pretty fexible, so I'll watch for details and hope to join whenever and where ever it is decided. Just remember the NRA Range is packed on the weekends.

I vote for shotgunning over at Bull Run and make a reservation for a round or two of sporting clays for the group.

Check over on Yotatech is you haven't done so recently, we're trying to organize the 4ROC "4Runner Owners Club" and a VA4ROC Chapter.

Thanks Roadrunner, I added my name to the list for VA4ROC.

An organized trip to Bull Run with a reservation for SC sounds good. I've only shot Trap, but would love to try SC.

Sporting clays is alot of fun. I do well with trap and skeet, but with sporting clays I'm lucky if I hit 50-60%. I just like being able to walk around to the different stations.

I'm a lot better with 5 stand, Roadrunner. :)

OK,

Sorry to have abandoned this, but my life just got a LOT more interesting...

So, at this point I'm going to say this.

Let's try for Saturday, June 21, at Bull Run, weather permitting, with lunch/dinner at a local restaurant afterwards as we normally do.

There's a distinct possibility that I may have to cancel at the last minute.

Kirk, I simply don't have time to try to organize an elaborate get together right now.

We can always repair to the NRA range for some handgun shooting the same evening.

I'll try to PM more locals over the next couple of days.

Would it be possible to make it as close to lunch as possible? I have plans for that afternoon through the following Sunday morning. If we could meet at Bull Run in the late AM, shoot, then have lunch, that would be awesome. :)

Dagnabbit... Just sold my O/U to pay off a debt, or else I would join ya at Bull Run.

If you're gonna hit the NRA range afterwards, then I'll be glad to meet up with ya.

Let me see if I can work something out at the Loudoun IWLA ( www.loudouniwla.org ) range(s). I'll talk to the Rifle/Pistol Range Chairman ( used to be me) tonight. If not for this round, maybe for the next.

You can rent shotguns, incl o/u, at Bull Run.

Warden just slapped the monitoring device on my ankle and said "Whatever."

Any chance for a later tee time? My seven-year-old has rugby practice in the morning. :D :D :D :D :D

No soccer moms here!

If the time doesn't work, I'm gonna be torn between my two favorites - rugby and shooting.

Mike, thanks again.

By the way, where's SodaPop? I still haven't bought that 870 (hint, hint). :D

Mike Irwin
June 17, 2003, 01:15 AM
Sorry, but MTNBKR requested the earlier tee time first, Mr. James.

Tell you what.

Since Tomcat has rugby practice, tell Mrs. James to get up off her fat, kept bon-bon eating ??? and take him!

Tell her you're going to be the MAN of the family, you're putting your foot down, you're going out with your friends to shoot guns, drink beer, and eat red meat, and you expect her to have the windows washed and meet you at the door with a cold one when you pull up!

OK, this is for everyone else.

I'll lay you 7 to 1 odds that they never find his body.

Who wants a piece of that action?

June 17, 2003, 01:35 AM
Youch.. Thats cold.

Mrs. 22x9 said "What? You want to do want with a bunch of yeh-whos (people you don't know) from some Gun Forum? "

Spoke to the Range Chairman at the Loudoun IWLA. We can reserve the 25, 50, 100yd range for a Weekday afternoon/early evening. Since I'm a member there I can host a gathering of any size and it would be ok. Just as long as it doesn't get unruly and small donations would be greatly appreciated, but not necessary. We would also need a NRA RSO on hand, not a problem :D . Haven't spoke to the Skeet Range chairman, but I can imagine that it would fall under the same guidelines, plus a few more(#9 shot, 2 3/4 dram equivalent, 12, 20, 28, .410 only)

If I counted correctly, there will be 8 of us shooting at Bull Run this Saturday:

Mike Irwin
Curt
Halolva
Mtnbkr
Themic
4truck
MJRW
Roadrunner

Did I leave anyone out? I'll be driving a silver 4Runner and I usually park on the left side next to the skeet fields. I'll try to find my TFL t-shirt with "Roadrunner" across the back.

See you all on Saturday at 11 am.

Mike Irwin
June 18, 2003, 02:10 PM
I'll be wearing one of my TFL Alumni shirts. You'll find me at the clubhouse.

Found out that Mal is on vacation, so he won't be joining us, and my friend Herb (he doesn't visit here often) is on the down list with bad back problems.

June 18, 2003, 10:40 PM
Mike,

Dead men tell no tales... ;)

I'll be there, but perhaps a bit late. I'll probably have to cut short my son's exertions on the rugby pitch. I do look forward to this. The last outing will be long, and fondly, remembered.

I'll be the clueless dipstick who doesn't know how an o/u operates. God bless the range guys at Bull Run - they have infinite patience.

Sayyy, think they'll let a 7-year-old shoot? I asked last time and they said, "oh, in about a year." That WAS in 2002 :D

KMKeller, yes, I'm jealous.

Oh, and I'll be in a dirty 2001 Silverado, gray. Fashion statement not yet known.

If I can ever find someone selling the Stoeger 28-gauge Uplander that I want perhaps Tomcat can use that, Bob.

I'm going nuts trying to find one of these to handle before I purchase it.

This from the Independence Institute in Colorado:

"Slam it. Shoot it. Smoke it.

Our Alcohol Tobacco & Firearms event is getting a lot of attention, including Peter Blake's column in the Rocky. What's it about? Join us for a morning of skeet shooting followed by lunch and brandy with cigars (or the booze and legal tobacco product of your choice) on Saturday June 28th at the swank Kiowa Creek sporting club. Oh, the fun things you can do when you're politically incorrect. Cost is only $150 which includes all the fun stuff. Proceeds go towards our mission, which hacks off folks who hate alcohol, tobacco and firearms. More info:

http://www.i2i.org/Other/Events/index.htm#3"

Sound familiar? Perhaps we can raise one in their honor after our event...
