Which grips would be appropriate for a 4" blued Python made in 1974? Also, does anyone know where I could find a replacement for the piece that screws onto the end of the ejector rod? Thanks much!

On post-war revolvers, Colt used the same rod head on the Python, original Trooper, the 357, Official Police, and Officer's Model Match, so you don't have to have a head made specifically for the Python.

For the ejector rod head, call Jack First:
Jack First, Inc.
1201 Turbine Dr. Rapid City, SD 57703
Parts: (605) 343-9544

For the original 1974 style grips, you'll need the Colt Third type Target grips:

Note the Gold medallions, the "thumb rest" on BOTH sides, and the checkering pattern that's in a straight line under the medallions.
These grips can be bought on eBay, but prices on Colt Target grips have just exploded in the last couple of years.
This type of grip typically brings from $100 to $200.

If you don't want the original grips but do want authentic Colt grips check out www.grips4guns.com. On the 12th this month I ordered a set of their rosewood grips with gold medallion. They came in on the 17th. They are beautiful, a deep red color with what appears to be a poly-urethane finish. When the light shine on them a certain way the wood fibers seem to flourese.
These grips are made by a company that made them for Colt.

dfariswheel, I got the part ordered ($21 for that little thing, whoa!), and thanks for the info on the grips.

Black Knight, I'm looking to get some original grips right now before the supply dries up. I'll bookmark that sight since I'm always looking for ways to spend money on my guns.

Thanks guys!

I gifted a python, and now I have a spare pair of target grips! All my other ones have the original grips, so they are excess. Let me know if you need them.
