Any negative aspects about the M&P...?

Good day, eh?

I've never bought a pistol before, been looking into various makes and models recently. This will probably be my only pistol for a while, as I'm going back to college full time and according to my wife there are more important things to spend money on than guns.

I'm looking for an all-around use pistol - target, home defense, etc. I'm not carrying at this point, so that's not an issue.

I keep coming back to the S&W M&P series.

I know a lot of it will come down to personal preference, but I'm wondering if any of you folks that own one can let me know if there are any real negative aspects of this pistol's design/performance I should know about.

Cheers!

I bought a M&P 9mm after looking at A LOT of different handguns, wanted a accurate, quality made, hi-cap 9mm.
Can tell ya' that the M&P is all of the above, easy to shoot well, taking it apart is a breeze...

Legion3 do you own one?, that "silly" tool is a piece of cake to use, just have to learn the correct way to remove it, and use it. :what:

Leafsfan...try one out if you can, I believe you will be pleasantly surprised! :D

Negatives? It lacks a repeat striker capability.

I've never used the takedown tool. Stick my finger in the magwell from the top and push that sear trip or what ever it is down. No problems, no worries. I'm told you can dismount the slide by pulling the trigger as well (ala XD). I really wish they had used the same, Glock-style takedown that is used on the Sigma. Maybe they can't without patent issues (they're paying Glock a royalty on something to do with the Sigma design).

Ah, the CZ100 has a second strike capability. Try that one?:neener:

How about the Taurus Millenium series guns, they have second strike capability.

I just can't seem to get worked up over this particular issue. Doesn't bother me much.

Expensive mags is a legitimate grips. Everybody but Glock and Springfield charge $40 or for their mags. Glocks <$20 mags have spoiled us all.

Maybe I should have read the manual. That's the way I've been taking my M&P 9c apart since I got it. I hope it hasn't been hurting it!

Someone just posted a really good thread about the M&P, should answer any questions you might have.

I love the M&P.

My only complaint is the same as others so far. The cost of magazines is crazy.

Gun fits great. Trigger is ok (can be polished to make better). Sights are good. Recoil is negligible. Takedown is a breeze (with or without the tool).

M&P....Goooooooood.

(they're paying Glock a royalty on something to do with the Sigma design).

That's not true. They redesigned the Sigma so that they wouldn't have to pay royalties.

I'm interested in the upcoming .45 ACP model. I'm thinking of buying either that or a 625.
