My powder for my .40 S&W IPSC loads is WSF (Winchester Super Field).

I recently bought my first 8 lb keg from a local shop, been buying in the 1 lb jugs in the past.

This keg was probably around for awhile at the shop, it has an "older" style label with a yellow background vs. the newer Win logo. I didn't pay too close attention to the label. I didn't notice until I got ready to use the new keg that the label actually reads "SUPER FIELD" with the letters "AA" centered below. :what:

I can't find any reference to 'SUPER FIELD" and "AA" in any of my reloading manuals.

Can anybody tell me what's up with this?

Are they the same powder, or do I need to start into this 8 lb keg with powder puff quantities and chrono my way up to what I want?

Yeah, I sweat the details a lot with stuff that goes BOOM!

Any info/insight would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll be ok. Before continuing give them a yell for safety’s sake.

this is from the winchester link above and it looks like the AA is a registered trademark of winchester. Looks like its what you wanted to start with.

Super-Field® propellant is the propellant of choice for Winchester 20 gauge AA® Target Load and 12 gauge 3 3/4 dram equivalent Super-X® load. WSF is an ideal choice to maximize velocities in 12 gauge 1 1/8 oz. and 1 1/4 oz. loads. Super-Field also performs well in 38 Super, 9mm and 40 S&W pistol loads. Excellent propellant for fast shooting action pistol applications.

There is also reloading data for WSF at the above site

Thanks for the responses!

Looks like Winchester is located very near to The Bullet Hole in KC (next door in the Hogden Powder bldg???) where I shoot IPSC indoors on Fri nights. That's interesting.

Very informative website...thanks again!
