Anybody know a good smith for HiPowers

I'm thinking about a project gun with a HiPower. I've got several higher end 1911s (Wilson CQB, Baer TRP, custom job on a Caspian aluminum frame, etc) but my HiPowers are as stock as they come, used, need refinishing, etc, which makes them ripe for a custom job. I've looked at the usual suspects, Novak, Yost, Cylinder &Slide, but I was wondering if anybody knew somebody else, maybe a younger up-and-coming guy that does good work without the 6month wait (and price tag, although the wait is really what bothers me more than the money).

What do you think?

Hope this is in the right place, I may copy it and put it in one of the other forums on pistols.

Thanks for the help.

Ask Stephen Camp at his website. Mr. Camp is very knowledgeable, particularly about HPs, and will gladly share that knowledge.

Also, try this website. Mr. Camp is also at this forum.

You will get the usual names, some you already mentioned. They all seem to have a long wait except for Novaks for minor jobs.

Karl Sokol - Chestnut Mountain Sports
Ted Yost Yost-Bonitz
Don Williams - The Actionworks
Jim Garthwaite

There's also OnTarget LLC Custom Gunworks http://www.ontargetcgw.com

You can see his work Here (http://handgunsandammo.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=fnhipower&action=display&thread=1162779367)

I don't know what his wait times are like.

Thanks, guys, keep those suggestions coming in. I guess sometimes the chase is as good as the kill.

Jess at OnTarget Custom Gun Works (http://www.ontargetcgw.com) took care of my wife's HP. Stippled and refinished the frame, new trigger and hammer, new springs, and barrel crown. It's a shooter! :D
