Me and my Mom went out yesterday and took our CHL courses. Ten hours total, including range time. Simple course of fire, shot my old Colt LW Commander, 45cal. Mom used her 38 Charter Arms and was the only revolver shooter there! The range crew was great and one of them assisted her through the course. Got to get the paperwork finished and sent in, 60days and I'm legal.

Very nice and congrats!
I bet you see them in less than 60 days.
Someone posted 45 days as their turnaround time not long ago IIRC.

Did they try to talk her out of shooting the revolver?
First class and renewal, no one shot a revolver. Both instructors discouraged it a lot.

Congratulations, oneshooter!
Turnaround times have been improving in Austin lately. I recently received mine in 45 days, including a 7-10 day delay caused by a paperwork error on my part. Others have reported even quicker turnaround times.
Let us know how it goes.

isnt it when you qualify with a revolver thats all you can carry, as when you qualify with an autoloader you can carry a revolver or autoloader.

Yes. If I didn't have an auto when my class date came around, I was going to borrow one to avoid the restriction.

When I have the extra money, I plan on getting mine. Sucks being a poor college student.

Welcome to the club.:)
I loaned a friend and his wife a Makarov for their CHL.
My friend's wife outshot everyone that shot that day, except my friend.
She liked the Mak so much that she insisted I sell it to her for her carry gun.

Yes, they tried to get her to use an auto. She has a problem operating the slide, she's 73yrs old. She has been practicing for several months with her revolver and is used to it. She told them that it would be all that she would need! One of the range guys looked at my Colt and told me that it was the oldest gun he had seen used. It is only 30 or so years old! I shot the center 10 ring from the target and the guy next to me asked what I was aiming at. I told him I was shooting at the hole.
For you local people, Houston area, west side. I did my class at Hot Wells Shooting Center. My instructor was Cheryl and she puts on a GREAT class. I highly recommend it. Saturday classes are $115 and that includes everything, packet, pictures, fingerprints, donuts and coffee and lunch!

If they do the pictures and everything, that is a pretty good deal. Most make you go buy passport photos that cost extra.
A guy shooting next to me at my renewal used an old Colt .45 that he said was tricked out to be more accurate. He had several malfunctions and wasn't too accurate with it. Not a big deal, he just needs to think about using that gun for self defense.
If my mother ever goes for her CHL she will also be stubborn about using a revolver. She could cycle the action on most 9mm pistols, but she just doesn't like guns or shooting very much. I don't know if my Dad will ever convince her to actually do it or not.

Welcome to the club!
I got my CHL in 1995 and had my third renewal in February which cost $65 photos included, and the entire class for first timers is only $80.

For anyone in northeast Texas I recommend Reagan Skaggs. He is in Paris and his web site is:
