I would go with the Taurus M94. I have one myself and I am very happy with it. So far I have put about 500 rounds of ammo through it, and I have only had one misfire and that was with cheap Remington bulk ammo. The M94 is extremely accurate and reliable. It has a great single action trigger pull. The only downsides to it, are that it has a rather heavy DA trigger pull, and the grips are a bit small for me.
The Heavy DA pull is not really an issue for me since I shoot the M94 for accuracy, and that is a Single Action job. You can buy larger grips from Houge.
All in all I have been very pleased with my Taurus, and would recommend it.

Edit: Before you buy, go ahead and perform The Revolver Checkout. It is stickied at the top of the Revolvers sub forum. I have heard from people that have had horrible experience with the M94, and people like me who have had a great experience. I would perform The Revolver Checkout, to make sure you pick up a good one.

I got mine at the end of last week, and by the end of the weeked it was gone. But the good news is that I've got a Dan Wesson 1911 CBOB .45 on it's way to me. ;)

Personally, if I were you I'd skip the Hi-Point guns. Not they're bad, I just don't like the way they feel or shoot. My dad has a Hi-Point.45 that he offered to give me a couple years ago, and I still haven't decided yet. That's how appealing they are to me, I can get one for free and I still haven't done it. It seems to be a reliable weapon though, as far as I can tell.

What are the guns for? Plinking, carry, HD?

I'm not a huge fan of Taurus, but the 94 looks like it would be fun. You might also look at a Ruger SP101 or GP100 in .375Mag, a Glock .40 or .45 would be a good choice too, or maybe an XD. I hear the RIA 1911 is a nice piece for the price, as are Springfield Mil-Spec (for a little more money). A Browning Buck Mark might not be a bad choice for an autoloading 22, a Ruger Single Six would be another good revolver choice if you're looking or something more traditional.

What handguns do you have now? I've always felt that it's better to have a few decent guns than a bunch of cheap ones, but that's just me. Every time I've bought something just because it was cheap I've been disappointed in the long run. Cheap and good, that's a different story. ;)

Your money, your choice. But in my experience it pays to buy good products in a caliber you want/will use. Doesn't have to cost an arm and leg but get good.

I had the .45, which I sold to pay some bills. I like it well enough to go and buy another one.

A better idea is to adjust your withholding so that you bring home more money every week rather than give the government a free loan. Try to cut it to where you get less than $100 refund.

Buy what you want and what you like. Please try to shoot a Hi-Point before you buy it. My father-in-law has one in .45. I took it to the range once. I had never experienced so many hung rounds.

It has this freakin' tiny ejection port in the side of the slide. Problem is that there just isn't a whole lot of room for the brass to fit through. The brass ended up staying in the slide frontways-sideways-even backwards (I still haven't figured that one out).

Unless they have made the ejection ports bigger, I'd just make sure that you shoot it first. Maybe it was just his...

Are you sure this is a Hi-Point? Those handguns have the biggist ejection ports I have ever seen on a pistol.

By the way, mine and my friends Hi-Points never jamed while shooting it. And right now I'm thinking of getting the C-9.

For around that price range, how about a used S&W model 10, or a Markarov.

Or keep it and save up to buy something you would really enjoy.

Definitely a Hi-Point. Maybe he got a dud, but that thing jams a lot. I would never rule out any firearm manufacturer, but I would definitely shoot a Hi-Point before I bought one.

And, like my post said, they may have made the ejection ports bigger since my father-in-law's was produced. I'm not sure how old his is.

I have a Rossi .357 2" that I brought last year after my handguns got stolen.

I like DA revolvers but right now priced much too high for me.

Would the NAA mini-revolver be worth getting if you are not going to carry?

What's a tax refund? Maybe one of these years I'll actually have a surprise and not owe the .gov. :scrutiny:

Anyway, I'd go for the Taurus 94. You can't go wrong with a good .22! And it will help you immensely whenever you have more cash to buy a full size DA revolver.

I almost put money down on a Model 94. But right now can't afford it.
