OK gents, I've a "tactical" problem here which could probably use your inputs.

Being diabetic, and skipping the health history, I've learned that about the best thing that I can do is to go to an insulin pump. Skipping the technicals, that means I'll have to wear a cell phone sized unit 24/7, except for short periods for showers and a differing period for domestic pleasures, attached to an abdominal infusion site by a light plastic tube (think IV).

Now, since I CCW whenever I've pants on (outside the belt slide and a T shirt with a .40 USPc or CDS) now, I'm thinking that I can use this to an advantage, going to the belly band over the required 24/7, with the weapon/mags removed for sleeping, and the whole mess for the described activities. After all, that small device has to be with me, attached and working, all the time.

Comments are invited regarding the probable success of this plan, especially from anyone with the same problem I have to address. But if you use a belly band, please pass on your experiences, (short form, please) since I can better estimate my reactions if I've heard of yours.

Also suggestions regarding which one to buy, and the reasons for the choice, would be appreciated, since I'll have to buy two, with one in cleaning and one on the bod, and bucks is bucks!

Anybody sitting beside me in the same boat should do the mail thing: problems
like this, discussed in detail, have no reason to be in an open forum, but information, transfered willingly, is usually a very good idea.

I know that the smartcarry (www.smartcarry.com) guy sells his to people for the purpose of holding insulin pumps. I don't know that he has a model that will accomodate both a pump and gun but I want to say that he might. Best thing to do would be to call or email him.

Thanks!

I'll investigate it a bit.

I tried the "action-direct defender", but I didn't like how it held the gun on my body, so I sent it back. I have a SmartCarry, but I don't use it that often because the gun digs into my stomach when sitting. For standing, it is fine.

If you are looking for cheap, wide belly-bands, the Ace Case (http://www.acecase.com/holsters.htm) seems to be the cheapest at around $20 + shipping. It is also 6" wide, which is purported to be a benefit. The action-direct defender is 4" wide for comparison.

The one thing that has always bugged me a little about wearing a belly-band is the bits & pieces up against my tender skin. Putting a tee shirt underneath makes me hot.

I finally got smart and bought a couple of women's tube tops for a couple bucks apiece. I put one on underneath my belly band and am good to go, with no front-sight imprints on my skin and no more velcro rash.

So what you're saying is that you enjoy wearing women's clothing?

;)

Um, yeah.

My favorite fancy outfit is a floor-length black skirt, worn with a sequined camisole and matching blouse. I'm not a fan of high heels, though.

Please please please, no one enlighten him.

HAHAHA! Sorry, Pax...I'm such an idiot. :banghead: I'm assuming you're a woman. The bass player's message board and this board that I post on are both mostly male (actually this one probably has more females than the other and I'm obviously newer to this one) so I'm sorry for making assumptions. I just had a mental picture of a big guy wearing a halter top. I think the fact that you said "women's halter tops" also kind of made me assume you were a man, because otherwise you wouldn't have needed to indicate "women's." My faulty logic. I'm really not a chauvinist.

Brad,

No problem at all. I enjoyed the laugh! :D

Actually, there's no reason it wouldn't work for guys, too. It's just a tube of soft, stretchy stuff that gives a pretty good cushion for the belly band.

I've used Be Secure bellybands for the last 4 years and they work great. Unfortunatly I purchased mine from Gunslinger who recently passed away and I don't have any idea where to order them from.

I am not certain as to its compatibility with the medical equipment you wear, but the Kramer Confidant holster shirt might be another item worth looking into.

I'll second the Confidant, its a lot more comforable and wearable than the belly band. Has two "holsters" too.
