Automatic Shotgun Safety Question

I fully understand the potential that firearms present. That being stated, I have a question...
Our new Remington Spartan 12ga has the automatic safety that is set to ON every time you break open the action. I still forget to set the safety to off 2-3 times per round of trap. I know it is a concentration thing. Would I be the first trap shooter to seek a gunsmith's help to make the safety a manual on/off selection only? I do NOT want to disable the safety altogether. I want to put the safety on or off any time I choose. Anyone had this done to a Spartan 310? Can anyone give me a really good reason NOT to do it if it is possible?
Mr. McCracken do you have an opinion or experience with this type of situation sir? You opinion is valued here.

The Ruger Red Label O/U does the same thing -- the safety is automatically engaged every time the action is opened. It may be a useful safety feature for field shooting, but it's a pain for target shooting and a lot of people have the auto safety disabled. If you don't like it, have it disengaged or change guns.

I'm no smith, but I do know that gunsmiths do this often enough that some have a set rate for changing an auto safety to manual.
Beretta 680 series field guns have auto safeties, target models do not.
I can only come up with a really good reason to DO so. One less thing to go wrong when shooting for score.
You may want to call Remington at 1-800-243-9700 and ask their people. It may be that changing it is user friendly.
Also, I'm not fond of auto safeties on anything. If one can cross the street on the green light, one should be able to remember putting the safety on or off as needed.

I have the Biakal Bounty Hunter SxS, which just happens to be the same action with the same auto safety. It is super easy to get rid of that auto feature. All you have to do is remove the stock and clip the little connecting bar between the lever mechanism and the safety with a pair of cutters. The safety still functions normally/manually, it just no longer automatically engages. Trust me, I did it and it was very easy.

An automatic safety is really unnecessary on a target shotgun, and most trap or skeet models don't have one. After all, the first rule on any good shotgun range is that you don't close the chamber until it's your turn to shoot and you are properly positioned on the shooting pad.

I've seen safeties disabled on many a shotgun for trap. I even saw one guy at the Grand go as far as to take a punch and knock the safety button out of a model 12. Yes, see a smith and get the auto part disabled but yet the safety is still there. This way it's still good if you want it in the field.
