Found a study done by a Marine Captain on the history of the NRA at STINET:

Title: Frontline Strategies of the National Rifle Association
AD Number: ADA445384 Corporate Author: NAVAL POSTGRADUATE SCHOOL MONTEREY CA Personal Author: Sierpien, Jeffery A. Report Date: March 01, 2006 Media: 103 Pages(s) Distribution Code: 01 - APPROVED FOR PUBLIC RELEASE Report Classification: (Not Available). Source Code: 251450 From the collection: Technical Reports

In addition to being good reading for anybody not familiar with the history of the organization, there is also a nice examination of the tactics they have used to make them successful. The paper was done with the cooperation of NRA leadership via several interviews.

You are finding all sorts of interesting stuff in those Naval post graduate studies. Keep it up.

Find anything good on U.S. Naval carrier operations in WWII? Or on Navy or Marine ground based operations in WWII?

I have a friend at Naval Post-Graduate School as we type... He's in the Army... :) (I don't know WHY I find that as humorous as I do...)

So exactly how does study of the NRA help this young Marine officer better lead men into battle?

I wouldn't be surprised. I've found studies on rifle effectiveness and ammo types going back to 1950 so far. There is literally, reams and reams of information available at STINET.

First, he's pursuing a masters degree in management.

Second, the title is "Frontline Strategies of the NRA."

Third, many of the principals of warfare are equally applicable to the NRA's political battles.

Fourth, politics has a significant overlap with warfighting, especially in the 21st Century. Just read the daily headlines from Washington, D.C.

The postgraduate school develops thinkers. While a lot of their thesis material may be directly related to military application, by no means is it, nor should it be, so limited.

That's right, Chesty. Besides, we wouldn't want a bunch of squids grading Devil Dogs on matters military, would we? :neener:

Damien45, I'll never laugh at Navy weather monitoring*. USCG weather reporting, more or less, saved the life of my uncle back in the 70's. Long story short: tiny boat, Lake Michigan, big ice storm coming out of no where, and a transitor radio...

*: If I do get into the Coast Guard, you'll have to understand that I will make fun of the Navy then. I'm pretty sure you need to invent at least on new squid joke to even make it out of Cape May.

I have heard so many, and love them all! I went to A School on an Air Force Base. Want to talk about trying to hard to offend?! lol Man those poor AF tech schoolers had no idea what to do with this Sailor! lol

Good luck with going Coastie. Got a lot of respect for the few I have met. Good people, but then I say anyone who serves is good people! Well, until they prove otherwise.....met a few of them too.
