Not sure if this is news or not, but I know Smith is all over this sort of thing... new at Creedmoor:

The Tubb-2000 Competition/Tactical Rifle (http://www.creedmoorsports.com/newitems.htm)

Guaranteed to turn heads, and make the target bigger... says to call for price, a little scary. Are these legal in CA? hahaha

Yes...it is bolt action.

Total investment after extra mags, sights (who would put a scope on that???!!!) dies, and all that stuff...about $4K.

Nothing is funnier than seeing a new T2K owner whip out the owner's manual and a set of Allen wrenches while he's on the line first thing in the morning.

4k?! That's one spendy little paper puncher!

Oh, what the heck, it's only money.

I'll take two. LOL!

Yeah, what good is that money when you are dead and gone? And don't give me that 'my kids will use the money' crap - by the time we kick it, the government will be taxing dead people more than ever.

After all, dead people (and children) are the one group without a lobbying group.

I'll take two, one in Cherry Red and one in Blue. Can I borrow the money from someone? All my money's tied up in lotto right now, but there's a drawing this week, so I can pay you back...

I thought the pump-action AR-15's were funny. But a bolt-action derived from an AR is definitely funnier. Especially at $4K. Not sure that the owners laugh a whole lot, but their disposable income did get them out there ahead of the Joneses, for whatever that's worth.

At least it doesn't dump combustion products back into the action... ;)

The Tubb action is not really "derived from the AR", IMO.
But it does have some external similarities...

This is what it (and an awesome shooter) can do:

That target was fired by CWO3 Dennis Demille at Twentynine Palms, Ca Nov 29, 2002. Score was 300-28x. It was fired at 200 yards from the sitting rapid fire position. Each 10 shot string begins from a standing position and the shooter must fire his 10 shots with in 60 seconds. He must also do a mag change within that time.

FWIW, the National Record was 200-20x, but because the way the rules are written, Dennis did not break the record. The next person to break the 200-20x record must score 300-30x or higher. Nevertheless, that is an AWESOME target. This is more of a testament to what an awesome shooter Dennis is than what a great rifle the T2K is...but again, the best equipment allows the shooter to do his best.

Impressive groups but I know of a certain rifle that has a guaranteed .5 MOA at 100 yards for two thousand less. Might not be as accurate but.... two thousand less. :D

And it doesn't look like a Star Wars blaster or something a Pink Pistols member would carry.

That's it, I quit!

I guess there's still at least one Jarhead that can shoot. Just out of curiosity, what's Demille's age and rank?

Is there a reason they are different colors? They look like they are made of Leggo blocks.

I don't know Dennis' age but his rank is CWO3.

Because you can. Shooter's preference. Any gun this customized will come in whatever color set you want it in. :)

Thats good shootin, but he looks kinda dorky wearing camo and holding that shiny red gun...

If you don't look a little dorky, you ain't shootin' Highpower!

Truly impressive shooting. A combination of shooter and rifle that does that good, it doesn't matter if he decorates it with Day-Glo polka dots!

and from what I personally have seen at the local matches....

"if you don't look like something out a monty python sketch you've not reached High Master yet"

match director at my club made a comment when i asked about gear, that there used to be a joke amoung the local group, based on the appearence/gear used of most of out top shooters, that there HAD to be some emphasis on the "High" in high master :)

I am now awaiting a Master card in the mail. When I think about looks and associate them with performance, I consider that I have taken to wearing a desert boonie hat sideways in prone position, with the left side (now in front) flapped up and held with the strap a-la Paddington bear, I guess. You wind up doing what works.

HMMMMmmmm, my Remington 788 will shoot .5 MOA all day. So will about two other centerfire guns in my collection. Let me get this straight, for $3,600 more, I get a cool paint job and a magazine capacity of two more? (Bolt actions can shoot 5 and 5). $3,600 buys me sights, dies, bullets, cases, a reloading machine, spotting scope, stand, shooting vest, gloves, sling, glasses, ear protectors, beer (for afterwards), targets, and a small CAR!!!

That, and the fact that I can't shoot as good as Gomer there.

The main thing about the T2K that non-match shooters miss is that it is purpose built for Match Rifle Highpower shooting. Everything on the rifle is adjustable, lop, cant, 3 way angle of buttplate, grip, forend positions, sight positions, you name it, AND the ergonomics are designed for ultimate efficiency. You can't take a straight stocked bolt gun and do what you can with a T2K, at least, not without a lot more effort. When seen in its proper context, the T2K is the best rifle for MR NRA Highpower, as it is the only gun ever built for the game from the ground up.

BTW, all those things I listed above are exactly why I don't shoot Match Rifle. Service Rifle is where its at! I try to stay as far as I can from the equipment race.

I could just here what the boys at deer camp would say if I took that out of a case and leaned it against the wall. "Hey look here, he's got a ray gun"

Purpose-built critters aren't "funny looking" except out of context, I guess. An Indy car ain't worth nuthin' at a tractor pull. An Olympic Free Pistol ain't quite the deal for a self-defense carry-gun, and verce-visa. I ain't gonna commute in a Double-A Fuelie.

I ain't gonna commute in a Double-A Fuelie.

I did something pretty close in my pre-divorce days - a blown, 580CI big-block Pro-Street S-10 doorslammer, to and from base housing and my squadron. ChassisWorks back-halved, spools inside a narrowed 9-inch Ford rear-end, dynamometer printout of just over 1000hp at the rear wheels. 8-seconds through the 1/4 mile trap. 15 gallon fuel cell just didn't help on the commute fuel distance, though:

Ex-wife got the proceeds from the sale, unfortunately. :(

The guys shooting at the level are much more concerned with perfromance than with appearence.

The first time I shot high power in Ojai, California, they paired me up with a Marine to help get me started. I didn't know my head from my butt that day, but by the time I got to the 600 yard line, I looked like I might know what I was doing. The Marine was nice enough to loan me his shooting jacket and his wife spotted for me. I think he was having a hard time being patient with me, but he pulled it off. I think the guy shot a 498 something X that day. I am 99% sure that Marine was Dennis Demille! How lucky was I and I didn't even know it at the time!

Wow, that's some serious shooting, especially at MCAGCC. I can remember one qual there when the wind flags were blowing in seperate directions at the same time. Nice to see that the Corps still issues greens to people in the desert even with the new camo patterns.:)
