I picked an 870 that was marked as used, but looks unfired. Can anyone date this gun. It's a Parkerized 870 Express, with a smooth bore 20" barrel, rifle sights and a wood stock set. I am not sure, but I think it's the deer gun. The serial number is A06145XX
Also how hard would it be to add an extended magazine?

Thanks!

I'm sorry. 870's aren't my type. :uhoh:

Emailing remington would probably be a good thing to do. they can tell you what kind of gun it was when it left the factory and how old it is.

The proper protocol is: first, formal introductions; second, a serious heart-to-heart with Dad; only then can proper dating begin.

Sorry, I'm more of an idiot tonight than on regular nights.

Yes, but it will never lead to marriage.

The prefix letter for the s/n indicates a manufacture date after 1997 for the receiver.

Check the left side of the barrel near the receiver for two other letters which will identify the month & year of manufacture for the barrel. The second letter will be the year '97/R, '98/S, '99/T. The first letter will identify the month Jan/B, Feb/L, Mar/A, Apr/C, May/K, Jun/P, Jul/O, Aug/W, Sept/D, Oct/E, Nov/R, Dec/X.

Remington discontinued date codes on barrels after 8/99.

Oh you guys are a laugh riot!:D

Thanks SKN! It looks like it was made in 1998.

Jason-
I've got the data at work to date them - roughly - back to 1968. PM me with the first letter on the receiver serial number.
