Benelli M1

I'm looking at a benelli M1 tactical (of course, there's little chance of me getting it, but I like to think there is). Anyway, I just want to know what you guys think of it, how much a new one goes for, reliability, etc. Is the pistol grip stock (not just a pistol grip, but a full stock with a pistol grip on it) better or should I just get a regular stock?

I like mine a lot. New, around here, starts around 800-850-ish. Then you have options like the pistol grip and ghost ring sights, which may make them cost more.
Reliability is good ***UNLESS*** you pile lots of stuff on it like optics, sidesaddle, taclight, etc. etc. etc. I have a buddy who has a SureFire, 3-point sling and Tacstar sidesaddle on it. It worked fine until he put an Aimpoint on it. Then it started to be iffy in the cycling.
Right now I just have a sidesaddle and a 4-round magtube extension, and the only time the gun ever failed was when I put my buddy's weaponlight on it. What I heard is if you put a weaponlight on it, if you attach the sidesaddle with Velcro instead of the pins that come with it, it'll work better. I may do that anyway, so I don't have to take the stupid saddle apart when I want to clean the trigger group.
Most folks like the regular stocks better, but I may go pistol grip. Sure, they're ugly, but I don't need/want the 4-rd extended tube anymore and will get a 2-rder. The pistol grip lets me keep it shouldered easier so I can reload w/ my weak hand, it's just easier for me to pull it in that way. This is highly subjective, but that's why there's diff'rent options, for diff'rent folks.
Early ghost ring sights, I heard had problems with falling off, the LPA's I've never heard of anyone having problems with them.
It's not THE shotgun, it's just A shotgun, but it works well for me.

I like mine fine. Concerning the standard vs. pistol grip stocks, for me, when comparing my M1 Tactical (pre-ban, pistol gripped) vs M1 Practical (standard), the pistol grip does make a slight but noticable difference in grip comfort. I think if you are able to shoulder the two different configurations at a local shop or show, you might be able to see for yourself.

I like mine a great deal. I've never had a function problem, but I don't have all the stuff hanging off it either - just the 4 round extension tube.
I thought I wanted a pistol grip stock for it and bought one a year or two ago ago, but then I changed my mind. It's never been on the gun. If someone wants it, I'll be glad to sell it for a reasonable price.

For a post-ban M1, if you get the straight stock, then you can add the extended mag tube. This is the most common configuration I saw at the first 3Gun match I shot.

You shouldn't worry about reliability with the M1S90. Yes it has more moving parts than a pump but I've seen more pump shooters short stroke than I have seen semi-auto's fail. When you talk about reliability of a shotgun system, like it or not the human being is part of that system. I believe if you were to calculate the reliability of a shotgun system the reliability would be totally dominated by the user, not the individual parts on the shotgun.
Yup if you pile a bunch of stuff on it won’t work as well. I heard you can put in a lighter spring and remedy that problem.
This gun is CLEAN shooting. Its as clean as a pump, or maybe cleaner :D. Unlike gas guns it relies on inertia recoil to cycle itself.
Up to you on the stock. I go with a regular stock because it feels better for me and I'm used to a standard stock. If you like pistol grip that is ok too, whatever makes you shoot better. Or whatever you think looks cooler. Nothing wrong with the bling!
Price, I think it goes for around 800. not sure though you might get it cheaper.
This gun is light, almost as light as a 20ga shotgun... well not quite but it is really light.
I really like this gun and if you have a chance you should try and shoot it. (it might kick a bit hard.... but that shouldn't be a problem if you shoulder it correctly)
Shoot it, own it love it!
I hope one day you will
