Mid Bead Sight Installation

I read a lot about sport model scatter guns having less drop on the stock than field guns. I have verified those dimension when looking at manufacturer specs on their websites etc. Being a soul with limited means I usually end up with a used field gun to soothe my "NEW GUN" appetite occasionally. Such was the case today when I came home with ANOTHER Winchester 1300. Those 1300 pumps just seem to fit me more than anything else when I pick them up. I want to make this unit my trap gun to compete with my son and his new Spartan 310. PUMP GUNS FOREVER!
Now for my questions...
Does the barrel rib on a field gun have any different pitch to it that would prevent me from installing a mid bead on it?
Any other things I should be considering before proceeding? Opinions, suggestions, discussions, and criticisms are all good when done in taste and proper spirit :)

Good luck with your 1300, another excellent pumpgun.
IMO, mid beads work well for premounted stuff and are superflous otherwise. Since you want it for trap, no objections from me.
Ribs on most modern pumps work for trap. Just get used to figure 8ing the beads and find out how they should be for 16 yard singles, handicap, etc.
BTW, I've taken deer with mid bead equipped guns shooting slugs. Sometimes one can use the mid bead like an open sight.
If you want less drop, adding a little material to the comb can raise POI. Moleskin works, so does masking tape for a temporary test.
HTH....

Is their any set dimension for the second bead back from the muzzle? The best I know to do now is go measure a couple I saw at the gun store already mounted. I can use a minature brass screw or something similar for the mid bead. Most I have seen are about half as tall as the bore bead. I am sure others have used different methods. I am searching for threads to that effect.

I'm sure there's a formula for where to set the mid bead, but I do not know it. Maybe some of our smith members can help....
