Any chance we can see the '86 ban on registering Class III's repealed?

Do you think that it is possible in the current political climate that we could see a repeal on the last part of the Gun Owners Protection Act of 86? I would really like to be able to buy new machineguns or convert semi's to FA fire.

If the '94 AWB sunsets, then it will be just a stroke of the pen to dispense with the Bush Ban of '89 (which was just an executive order and not an actual law).
Until I see these two things happen, I ain't hopeful.
And I ain't exactly gonna stand on one foot waiting to see it, either, if you know what I mean. :uhoh:

There's a better chance that it would be overturned in court than repealed in Congress. And I'm definately not counting on the former.

It's pretty tough to repeal a ban on the further manufacture of "machine guns" when the public thinks that the '94 AW ban did that.

Not only would you have anti's fighting against that, but also a large amount of gun owners / collectors.
Full Auto for only a $200 tax would sure piss alot of "investors" off that have already paid $8,000+ for M16's, etc.
Oh, and isn't the Gun Owners Protection Act one of the big laws the NRA fought for?

The Other One:
The Firearms Owners Protection Act is its proper title, and yes, the NRA fought hard for it. The MG ban wasnt included until the last possible second when it got thrown in by the Senate, but the FOPA reformed so much of the bad stuff of the GCA of '68 (and they'd pushed so hard for the bill to pass) that it was deemed better to get Reagan to sign the thing as-is and get the courts to drop the MG ban as unconstitutional at a later time.

Unless a very pro-gun president and Congress is brought into power it will never happen through the normal channels.

I can't believe you people.

Have you all given up? What about all the blustering on this forum and others about how we should be fighting the government's infringement on our rights?
Now that we have a (semi-) pro-gun President and Congress we should be pushing harder than ever to get those stupid laws repealed.
Don't give up!! Keep writing to your Congressional Reps and Senators. Write to G.W. Call all of them every week. Get your friends and family to write and call, also.
Now is our best chance. You know that things will only get worse from here if we just sit back and watch.

If AWB sunsets and IF Bush is re-elected with Republican control of both houses...then it will be time to really put the pressure on.

I would gladly give top dollar for a MG today knowing full well that the laws could be changed later and the value of my MG would fall. I'm not in it for an investment. I'm in for the fun.
Hopefully, the few investors realize that there are no sure-fire investments. Frankly, they should be happy they can afford to own a legal MG.

There is an excellent chance that it will happen, but one thing at a time, my son.
Before that happens we need to ditch the 94 ban, and then go to work on the import ban, and then concentrate on the 86 ban (thanks Reagan). This will happen while we are also making efforts to liberalize RKBA ona a state and local level.
Now, before any of this happens, you and all of the other RKBA advocates have to get out there and 1) take political action, and 2) take social action. The first is kinda obvious, but what I mean by the 2nd is that you will take it upon yourself to spead the word about RKBA and freedom, and to take possible converts shooting. The more people we bring into the fold, the more potential activists we have.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the import ban signed by Bush #1? If Bush #2 gets elected again, I'm a bit skeptical about our chances of having him support overturning something his father put in place.

The 89 import ban is an executive order not an act of Congress.
