I was wondering if there is a list somewhere of what all the police depts issue to the officers. It would be cool if you could find out what every police dept. issues it's officers.

Where I live, they issue Glock 19s but they used to have Sigmas.:barf:

If someone is keeping a list it has to be a work of love.

I've never heard of a really comprehensive list of LE department issues sidearms; I know that the departments I used to work with when I was in the business, usually had an issue weapon and then maybe an alternative for officers with smaller hands (example: San Jose, Ca. PD issue: Sig P226, smaller alternative: Sig P225) and then if you wanted to carry anything else, they had an 'approved list' of makes and models. IIRC some departments also have a 'minimum caliber' for BUGs or off duty weapons also.

When my dad was with the Santa Clara, Ca. Sheriffs Office, he was issued a SW 66, and when he started with the SOs back in the early '60's the Sheriff carried a Colt Single Action Army. Now there was a Sheriff.

rebbryan,
WOW! That is just what I was looking for. I wanted a list of all police depts but by the time someone compiled it, it will have changed because Police depts change their pistols so often.

It is interesting that not one State has revolvers anymore. I thought for the hi-way, the power of the revolver might still be worth the limited capacity. Guess not.

BTW, what is going on in Kentucky that they alone feel the need to have a 10mm? Everyone else seems satisfied with 9mm, .40, or .45.

Just to update the list, the Alaska State Troopers have been carrying Glocks (G-22) since last fall.

Tennessee Staties went from the .40 Sigma to the .357SIG Glock 31 recently, and I'm pretty sure that Kentucky dumped the 10mm Smiths for Glock 22's in the last couple years, too.

Do that many states still use 9mms, or is that list out of date?

I'm a little suprised that Wisconsin is issuing the P89. The P89 is a good and reliable gun, but it seems everyone else has went the way of the smaller, DOA polymere or the DA/SA with the smoother triggers like the Barrettas.

I don't know about the rest of the state but here in Leeds and I think all of Jefferson County the standard issue is a Beretta 92. Which no one takes. ;)

That list contains at least one error. The Pennsylvania State Police have never carried a 9x19 service pistol. They went from the Ruger Security Six .357 to the Beretta 96D some years ago, and have since transitioned to the 96D Brigadier.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol recently changed from the Beretta 96D to the Beretta Cougar chambered in .357SIG.
