I found this neat old trap gun down at one of the local shops. It's an Italian built Mauser Bauer model 496 single barrel break action trap gun. Nice hand checkered walnut stock, mildly case colored engraived receiver 30" barrel with adjustable butt pad.
Price is sub $500 and it's in pretty nice shape. I shoot enough trap to where I could justify a dedicated trap gun, but I don't know anything about these guns. Can anyone help me out with some info?

Just bought myself a Ruger Speed six so this one might have to wait.
Any information would still be appreciated.

I used to own a Mauser Bauer 620 Trap (made be the Italian firm Gamba). Although it was a really well-made gun, wonderful wood, case-hardened finish, well-done checkering, detachable triggers, etc.;I finally sold it because I could never rely on the selective trigger to fire the second barrel. These guns are made a lot better than the used prices they are fetching and I would say that the price you are looking at is fair indeed. Look around and see what that kind of money brings you today in terms of workmanship and finish...

Thanks for the input SwampWolf.
The gun I'm looking at is a single barrel trap model so I reckon the trouble you were having with the selective trigger would be a non issue here. It does seem like a nice shotgun, if it's still avialable when my gun fund money is back up to where it needs to be I just might go grab it.

There were several of those at the trap clubs around here in the 1970s. They seemed to do OK and "sub $500" for one in good working condition is sure a cheap way to get a real dedicated single barrel trap gun.

Moot point now, gun is gone....*POOF*.
I probably should have grabbed it when I had the chance.

Both are over 30 years old but that's about all I know about them.
Stamped on barrel is Warren Michigan but the chamber of commerce did not have any records of a company that did the importing. They did give me the oldest gunsmith in the area but he to did not have any information.
I suspect these were imported as sort of store brand. Anyone could get them if the knew what the wanted.
I need parts Fireing pin and main spring. Do you know of any sources?
Thanks, for the help in advance.

I wish you luck in your search my friend. I had a devil of a time picking up any information when I was considering purchasing this gun a year ago.
Spare parts are likely to be a tough nut...
