serial number question for S&W mod 4006

Hi I have a Mod 4006 with serial number starting with VCD and followed by 4 digits ( VCDxxxx) am curious on the meaning of frst 3 letters

It means nothing, It's just part of the serial number, In March of 1984 S&W began using 3 letter prefix on all products including automatics. Three letter prefixes had been used on revolvers prior to this.
