Okay, I've got an 8/40 tap and the proper drill. I was wondering how to know which screws to get and where to get them? I looked at the Brownells catalog and they have assortments but I've never done this before.

... but I HAVE threaded holes before and that's simple enough. I have to pull the barrel to get the front hole on one. I'm getting a Weaver base that I'll epoxy on if this doesn't work, but I'm considering that a fallback plan.

I don't like allen head screws because they strip out too easily. I would get fillister or torx screws. You will need to measure the thickness of the receiver and thickness of the weaver mount to determine the screw grip length.

My 10/22 was marked $70 in a pawn shop, but I dickered them down to $35 because the screws on the scope mount were stripped.

There was one good hole, so I glass bedded the mount the the receiver without release agent, and it has held up for many hunting trips over the last 10 years.
