C&RFFL, now what?

Sorry to revisit the monthly thread, but I wasn't paying attention last time. :)

Got mine today, woo hoo! 15 days round trip. Now if they would hurry the hell up with that form 4.... but I digress.

I understand that I do not sign the original, but the copies that I am about to make and send off like Christmas Cards on 22 DEC, and I need a "bound book" for my C&R acquisitions (but not for my private collection).

About this 'bound book', will a regular notebook work? Or an Inventory sheet(s)?

Currently I have a 'weapon inventory' that I keep in my safe and on my computer. I update it when a new smoke pole comes through the door, so record keeping is nothing new to me. Helps me keep track of the little beauties (oh crap! I already had one of those!)

Or, does it need to be an 'official, bound book' of the type (xxx, sized xxx, with a binding xxx)?

Thanks guys!

Doesn't need to be a actual book, but it does need to be "bound", a notebook would work. I use the form available from Surplus Rifle: http://www.surplusrifle.com/graphics/boundbookpage.pdf , and keep the pages in a 3 ring binder.

You can keep C&R records on your computer, but that requires specific approval of your format from ATF. (I just use my computer to backup the "book", not as my official record)

Send a signed copy to Misway, USA and get a discount on everything!

BTW, sign your copies in somethoong OTHER than black ink, so it wopn't lok like a duplicated signature,

That is what I do. I keep a hard copy in the safe, and the backup on the PC. But that is the method I have developed for my personal collection, and has only to be approved by me.

So a hard copy in a 3 ring binder is acceptable. Sweet.

but it does need to be "bound"

No it doesn't. An "orderly collection of loose leaf pages" is just fine.

I only have one so far (Garand), so I just use the little card that was included in my packet.

I received my packet from the BATFE this week.
I am going to get it filled out and mailed this weekend.
I do have a question.
I got a fingerprint card with the other forms.
Is that required and do I need to pay the police to take my prints?
I have called the BATFE but they have not returned my call even though they assure me my call is important.
Thanks
AC

I needed no fingerprints.

Filled out the form, made a copy. Sent one copy to CLEO, one to the ATF in ATlanta... (sent it to Dallas first, they returned it.), along with the check.

Viola, 15 days and I got the paper in the mail, but that is all I got. I have no instructions or guidelines.

Ranger, I hate you. :p I assume you sent yours to the Atlanta address for the C&R? I did that too nearly 6 weeks ago. They hit my card a week after I mailed it back to them, and have yet to receive anything. I 'm only a few states over from ya. ..... Anyone got a phone number to call?

Thank you for the information.
My paperwork will go in the mail Monday.
Without fingerprints.

15 days! You do know I hate you? Don't you?

90+ days and I ended up calling Thursday. The people were very polite, gave me my file number, apologized for the delay, and said they would start:what: the background check immediately.

Now I have no beef with the people I spoke with on the phone. They were all very nice, helpful, and extremely professional. But, you would think that the person who submitted my check to be cashed within 2 days of receipt, could (now I know this is crazy talk) maybe have submitted the background check somewhere along that same time line? Or maybe a month later at least?

Oh well. Allegedly my dead forest should be arriving soon. Here's to hoping anyway.

Maybe I'll get to start my own CRuFFLer thread soon.

So, I just need to fill out this form 7CR and send it in to them with my payment and then send in the duplicate copy to my C.L.E.O.? Or are there more forms for me to fill out?

There used to be a separate form called "Certificate of Compliance", but it is now incorporated into the 7CR form, item #10. Doesn't apply to you if you are a US citizen.

Actually, you should send signed copies to all of the big online distrubutors. That way, when you see that 4.5MM Remchester X999 you've been wanting, just call in your credit card info and get it shipped the same day.:D

Sorry, but that's not good enough. Your acquisition and disposition record must be in the format prescribed in 27CFR §478.125(f) and shown in Table 5 on page 68 of your Federal Firearms Regulations Reference Guide.

Really? Thanks, I'd figured it was what they wanted since they included it. :o

I'll print out one of the SurplusRifle sheets, then.
