Okay, so I bought 22 pounds of the stuff from Midway and last weekend I hit the jackpot at the gunshow and bought 3000 Winchester 55 grain FMJs for $150. I also have a few thousand other 22s on hand so, it is time to start loading some up. I bought the powder because it was cheap and I have heard it does well in the 223. Mostly I bought it because I hope to shoot a lot of rounds through my ARs This summer. I also have Savage bolt actions in 223 as well as 2 204s. I got some reloading info with the powder but I thought I would ask you guys if you had used this in either or both of these calibers. I have found that if a powder is good in the 223 it is usually good in the 204 as well. So, if you have had good luck with this stuff let me know what your load is and, of course, how accurate it is in your gun. Obviously it would be great if I could find a load in each of these approaching the accuracy that I get with my favorite powders, H335 and BLC-2.

I haven't tried it with the FMJ but I have sent several hundred Nosler BTs down range with 24.5 to 25.2gr(max from Ramshot)/Fed 205M primers/Rem case. It will put 10 rounds under 1" @ 100 from a HB AR. Accuracy was best at 24.5gr and 2950fps 10' from muzzel

I loaded a batch (30 rounds) using once fired Federal (Amer.Eagle) casings all sorted, trimmed and primer pockets cleaned. The primers were Win. WSR behind two wts. of Ramshot tac. This pushed Sierra 60gr HPs.
The Tac amounts were 25.0gr & 25.8gr going 2900 & 3000 approx.
I had a problem with the 25.8grains of Tac in that 3 out of 15 primers were blown out of my casings! A couple others showed stress, also.
Upon talking to a Ramshot rep, he said that Tac is probably better with the lighter projectiles like 40 -55gr whereas the RL15 is probably best in 60 on up.

P.S. Accuracy using Tac was the worst of the three powders that I tried that day. Varget & H335 outshot Tac by far in my 24", 1:9 twist AR-15

I had about the same experience with 55 gr Win. FMJs out of my 24" AR with a 1 in 9 barrel. I only loaded up 30 and did not do any real prep. I was not impressed to say the least, but I have not given up. The good news is that I started testing a bunch of loads the right way and I will have that info posted as I shoot the loads. I shot some with the 204 and some with the 223 and was very impressed with the loads as well as my Savage rifles. For more info check out my other post. It is easy to find. If I get off this computer I will head out to do some mor testing today. It is absolutely beautiful out.:D

How do you square the below w/ Ramshot advertising Tac for .308 as well as .223 and mentioning "industry highest velocitys w/ 80 gr bullets, without exceeding SAAMI pressures"?

I think the Ramshot data has TAC for the heavier bullets and X terminator for the lighter ones. I have so far only used TAC for 62, 68, and 69 gr bullets. I think I will try about 24.5 - 25.0 gr TAC with the 55 gr bullets. I like TAC in my .30-.30 and .308 and .30-06 that is what I bought it for originally.

Work up to this...

Depending on the upper, when I use FMJ and TAC, I load:

IMI (New Guat Brass from Weidners) 5.56 brass, with the small flash holes
CCI BR4
Hornady (preferred) FMJ
25.2 or 26.0 (depending on the uppers, both RRA) Gr TAC

For better accuracy, and better bullets (69 & 80 SMK), I choose Varget. But for 300 yard pop cans with my Varmint upper, if you miss, it's not the TAC load. (25.2 in that case.)

TAC shoots 69 SMK(s) better than 55 Gr FMJ for me.

You'll find a lot a TAC and 55 Gr FMJ load advice on AR15.com's reloading section...but many try to make their loads XM193 velocity...regardless of accuracy.

One additional 'work-up' disclaimer: I have a Wylde chamber, so the 26.0 load might not be good (or be hot) in a .223 chamber.

I get .5 to 1" groups at 100 yards using 23gr of Tac, Fed 205, and Hornady 55 gr FMJ out of my 16" light weight Del-Ton AR upper. Don't know how that would work with the Winchester projectile.
