I have been reloading for my 45 ACP M1911's for twenty years . Last year, I decided that as good as W231 and Unique were, Bullseye is going to be my standard powder. 4.5 grains with a 230 LRN gives me exactly 800 fps, the cases fall near my feet, the load is accurate, and the recoil is a lot less some other powders.

This morning, was reading a book on the Service 45's and find that the original Army load was 5.0 grains Bullseye. 800 fps muzzle velocity.

Well about 96 years later, I am back to the starting point.

My "pet" load in .45 has been 5.0 grains of Bullseye under a 230 RNL for a while now. I typically shoot 5 shot groups from a rest at 25 yards and count the best 4. With this Bullsye load I've gotten as good as a 3/4" 4 shot group out of a 5" 1911.

Wow, if I could do that I would shoot a lot more "screamers".

It does tell you the gun and load is shooting well, though..:)

I am working on a IDPA and USPSA power factor load (165) with a 230 grain RNL hard cast bullet. I tried 4.2 grains today and this is what I got. I think I will leave it alone.

this is 25 yards off hand. 2.25 inch group.

Here is the gun responsible. My CQB.

I had good extraction and feeding and the load locked the slide back every time. So I am happy. And the recoil was not too bad either compared to my old load of 4.6 grains.
