Looks like a pinfire of some kind. Does it have any identifiable proof marks?

Based upon the recurved tang under the trigger guard, the grip panel embellishments and the shape of the trigger I would guess that it is a pinfire by E. Lefaucheux, Paris, France.

Many Lefaucheux revolvers were imported to the U.S. and were used in the Civil War, so if you found that gun somewhere in the Chambersburg area it would make sense.

I have a book titled Guns of The American West by Joseph G Rosa. In it it has a picture of a Lefaucheux model 1853 12mm pin- fire. It looks near identical to yours. The one in the book has a butt cap on the grips with a lanyard loop. Hope this helps.

I appreciate the help in identifying this relic. It was found in NJ @ my dad's home in old barn. It does have some sort of fancy lettering style on the cylinder that I can't make out. The leads you've given me are a great help!

Thank you!
