I have owned a Glock 17 for about 20 years, now. It's serial number is AU51x.
It was made in "Austria" rather than Smyrna, Ga. A Glock Rep. once told me ,while he was putting the latest updates in the gun, that perhaps I should stop using it competition. The reason he gave for that was that these guns were worth more to a collector than the U.S. built guns. What is your opinion?
Thank you.

I don't believe a Glock was ever made in any country other than Austria;)
Yours may be imported before they hooked up with the Ga. location for the importer.

The "AU" in the serial number indicates a manufacture date of 7/86. It is a very early model and may have some collector value but I would not hesitate to shoot it. If the Glock man put in new parts as part of a upgrade the gun is perfectly safe to use. Enjoy it, don't send it off to a museum.

Anybody who tells me that a gun is "a valuable collector's item" had better be making a substantial cash offer for it. Otherwise it is just chit-chat to be ignored. Maybe he was trying to sell you a new gun if he could talk you into retiring yours.
