Yeah yeah, go ahead and say it "MALL NINJA!" But this is a fun idea I had.

1. I'm thinking about putting some optics on my Mossberg 500 shotgun. The only pre-req I have is that it has to be vision-enhancing and quick for me to sight in. Oh, and it also has to be able to take a lot of bumps. Not for really long-range shooting (obviously), but just to ensure more accuracy at somewhat longer distances with slugs.

2. What types of slugs are the most penetrative and what types or the least penetrative?

3. My shotty has a pistol grip on it right now, and to change it out to a full stock I see I need some sort of allen wrench tool, but none of my allen wrenches fit it. What do I use?:cuss:

Not mall-ninja at all, optics are very popular with deer hunters. I haven't mounted any myself, but the best setup is using a cantilever barrel. This allows you to remove the barrel and optic in one piece and keep a semblance of a zero when remounted.

As to slugs, the Brenneke type rifled slug is general regarded as the most solidly formed. Foster slugs tend to deform quickly and sabot slugs are meant to expand rapidly in deer sized game. There are some cottage manufacturers that make high penetration slugs for dangerous game, but they are quite expensive. www.dixieslugs.com is the one that immediately springs to mind.

The nicest scope I've seen in a LONG time is the Nikon Monarch UCC TurkeyPro 1.5-4.5 x 20 Shotgun scope. They aren't cheap though, probably $300 - $350 range, but, it was probably the clearest low-light scope I've ever used.

Wal-Mart actually has them on-line for $279:
