Scope protection?

Does anybody use screw-on "filters" on their good scopes to protect the glass? I just got a Weaver Grand Slam in the mail and saw that both rims were threaded and it got me wondering. I've always put skylight or neutral density filters on all camera lenses just for ding and dirt resistance, but this is only the second scope I ever bought and the first was a $50 Bushnell for a .22 mag. (Did put one on the new spotting scope I got a few months ago.) Ed

So far as I know, no one makes a real high quality clear lens cover. The better the optics, the more you'll notice that these see-through $10 lens covers were made for $3 (tops).

Get a set of Butler Creeks, keep the lenses capped til you're ready to shoot, and cover'em up when you're done. If you're gonna install clear covers and shoot through them, ya might as well save the money on the scope and by a Tasco or Simmons and leave it naked.

One thought comes to mind. You might take your scope (only:eek: ) to a camera store and see if they have threaded lense covers in the size you need. Who knows, maybe Leica makes a protective clear lens in the correct size.

I'm fond of the Scopecoat, a stretchy neoprene sleeve that covers the whole scope, protecting it from dust and impacts.

I also just use butler creek flips and a sunshade for some extra protection. Would be nice if Tiffen or someone made a nice glass filter though.

I, too, am a big fan of the Scopecoat----great protection for the scope when not in use.

Where do you get a produce like scopegoat? sounds like a great idea, just I've never seen it sold anywhere.
