I really enjoy this model, complete with a full Bomar sight that runs the entire length of the barrel and frame. This one is tweaked by Clark Custom Guns.. :D Wish I could fine some more of this model.

I've got a "pre 15" my father bought in the 50's. Hard to beat a "K" frame S&W for double action trigger.

My first handguns were two model 15's, one 4" and one 2". I foolishly sold them....they shot so well it was scary.

My first Model 15 was love at first trigger pull. I've got a couple now, and a 67, and an 18, and a 19.

NOTHING nicer than a 4" frame, except possibly a nice 1911, or maybe a nice 6" K frame:)

Many years ago I bought a used 15-2 for my dad. It came with Pachmyer grips and I suspect some action work had been done on it. I have since inherited it. It's more fun to shoot than any of my autos. I love the DA trigger on it. It's so smooth.

I don't have a pic but mine looks like Erich's. I bought it about 6 months ago from a guy at work for 150.00. S&W confirmed that it was made in 1970 it has a pinned barrel but no recessed cylinders. I shot it last week and it has a buttery smooth action. My model 15 and my model 10 (both of which are ex police guns) have great actions, accurate and extremely adequate for CCW carry. Both of them wear Tyler T-grips and shoot dead on.

My first duty gun was a Model 15. I hated it. Well, hate is too strong a word. I could not hit with it. I was used to a Model 27.

However, nostalgia rules and eventually, I got a Model 15 of my own long after I left that department. I still can't seem to shoot it as well as some of my other guns, but it does hit what I aim at, so I guess it has that going for it. Guess I just need more practice with it. Photos later.

I have a profound love for ALL of the classic S&W revolvers. I'd love to be able to add a Model 15 to my family.

I carried a snubbie model 15 for years before it was retired when the Air Force bought the Berettas. The issued shoulder holster was uncomfortable so I carried in an ankle holster.

Trivia: The Air Force called the snub model 15 a model 56. I believe it was to differentiate between the longer barreled 15s.

norfdet893, S&W only ever recessed the charge holes on magnum and rimfire models, so your 15 is correct.

My first duty gun was a model 10 shortly thereafter replaced by a 64. If I could have found a model 15 back then that shot like mine does now, I would have rather had that.

Sorry, no picture but I do own a nice model 15-3. I like the double action trigger pull so much I actually prefer to shoot in DA over SA. If I could own only one handgun, the model 15 would probably be it.

Smith & Wesson has produced some extraordinary guns and I'm hard pressed to say I like one model better or above another. I have been fortunate to own two model 15's one was a -3 that is still in my inventory and a -4 that was given to my youngest son. He was a small youngster the day it was bought and carried around in the top of his pants Mexican style. I laughed at him until my side hurt. He always appreciated the gun so when he was old enough, I gave it to him and I somehow doubt he would part with it for any amount of money. For me the model 15, like all of the "K" frames, is just about as fine as can be attained. I don't know of any short comings concern the model. They just don't come any better. For someone to say that they don't like a 15 would mean that they have no idea what they're talking about. If .38 S&W Special fits your requirements for a firearm you can't go wrong with a Smith & Wesson model 15. I love mine. You fellows have some beautiful pictures!! Regards Pistol Toter:)

Hi, Mainsail;

The model 56 is an S&W model number, and it is the precursor of the model 15-2, and was developed for the USAF. 15,205 manufactured between 1962-63. Most are believed destroyed. Four ANIB specimens are at the Springfield Armoury Museum. "Might bring in the $2500.00-7500.00 range. A couple of sales in Excellent condition have been reported around $4000.00-5000.00."

Want yours back?

The above is from the Standard Catalogue of Smith & Wesson by Supica and Nahas (third edition). I can highly recommend this book to anyone interested in S&W's.

I have two Model 15s in the stable right now. The Model 15 is one of few S&W revolvers that has not soared in price in the last three years. Good Mod. 15s are still around for under $200 in my area.

I love the Mod 15 I have one that belonged to a Newport Arkansas Police Officer in the 1960's and is a 4 screw Mine has battle scars HEEHEE It still has most of the blueing on it and has the original grips!!! It has a nick in the grip from where I was told that it was in a bad gun fight and to make a long story short the suspect didnt make it. I am in law enforcement also and we are not issue weapons so we carry whatever we qualify with. I carry it some off duty but i do not feel under gunned with it due to the surpurb accuracy. I will never sell my 15!

Let me begin with the M15 is my favorite handgun. Yes, that includes 1911s, BHPs, N-frames, etc. I have owned a lot of M15s and sold all but the one I presently own. Every time I sold a M15 I experienced an ache in my gut and asked myself why another gun had caught my fancy? This is the one I have, it isn't fancy but I am happy! Regards, Richard:D

I just got yet another 85% model 15 for the princely sum of $225. It is a 5 screw with mildly worn diamond grips. It has TT and TH , and is the earliest example with that option I've seen. It also has a Patridge blade sight on the front like a model 14, it is pre 15 marked so maybe it is a 4" K-38 and not a Combat Masterpiece. It has a superb action and does not appeared to be worked on. I already have a 5 screw marked model 15 , cased up with my 5 screw 18 . So this odd ball is gonna stay handy, I think I am gonna sight it in with mid range wadcutters and replace my Colt Trooper .22WMR with it as a utility gun.

DrLaw
April 11, 2007, 01:44 PM
Yes, it is, but your model 15 makes a model 10 look like a before and after photo for some sort of makeover or one of those fancy photo sessions. Kind of makes me want a Model 15 with a two inch barrel even though I would have no need for it.

Mister 1kperday- I believe that that is a 'Heritage' series revolver that came from the factory like tht. I rember reading about it some where, and I remeber the Monogrip, the huge front sight, and some sort of plaque on a side.
I could be wrong, though.

XavierBreath
April 12, 2007, 07:33 PM
It is indeed CZ22. The cool thing is the first Heritage Series were Performance Center guns. Thus, the Model 15-9 is a PC gun. Doug Turnbull did the case hardening on them.

Yes, IIRC it was $599 from CDNN (http://www.cdnninvestments.com/index.html). Here's a range report (http://xavierthoughts.blogspot.com/2006/02/smith-wesson-model-15-9-range-report.html).
