Berthier, 3 shot to 5 shot conversion.

I have both and have plenty of 5 shot clips, but can't seem to get any three shot clips. I thought that it might be easier to just convert the Turkish Forestry Carbine to 5 shot. Anybody done this or know how to go about it? Or have any three shot clips for sale?:D I know I can use the five shot clips, but loading three rounds in them sounds messy. I want to hunt the forests with the carbine with lead boolits (yeah I know I have twenty or thirty rifles that will do it better and easier, but I wanna try this out).

There was a three shot clip on gunbroker, but apparently it was not sold. I think the price is stiff, but if you want one...

IIRC, to convert from 3 shot to 5 shot requires a whole new magazine, since the internal parts are different, but it should be a "drop in" conversion if (big IF) you can find one.
Since few French weapons have found their way here until pretty recent times, there is just no large supply of Berthiers of any model in this country to supply parts.
(I note that some sellers of 5-round clips are calling them "stripper clips." Ignorance we have always with us.)

Hubba, hubba, that is dear. They look pretty solid though. I'd go to $10 each I suppose for up to three of them, but $18-22 is a bit rich.

Sorry, Mick, when I said "this country" I didn't notice that you are from Australia. I doubt things are any better there in regard to old French weapons parts, though.

We usually do allright with milsup parts, but we don't have a big outfit like Numrich/GPC. You have to do the rounds of the gunshops, some have lots of this stuff, some have none. I'm not holding out hope of getting these bits though. Might be up to good ol' Numrich. I'll send the guy on gun deals/whatever a pm and offer $10 for up to 4 of them, probably cheaper in the long run. Another option is to just use a 5 shot clip at the moment and when (if?) I pick up a rifle with a decent barrel, remove the parts, swap to the carbine and sell off the one with the worn barrel.
Another thought has come to mind, the shop where I bought the rifle have another one, with an even worse barrel, not really shootable. I might see if they are interested in cannibalising the piece and fitting my three shot bits to it. You don't need five shots on a wallhanger. :D

Jim, I tried to register with that gunbroker/whatever and it would not accept me on the very last stage. It said, contact us. I pressed the button and it told me I had to log in to contact them. Going round and round and f&%$#@G round!
Have a happy easter :D ,

Happy Easter to you and the folks "down under."
Yes, I hate those sites where you have to register and promise them your first born just to ask them a question.
