worn rifling
.224 magnum

Just purchased an old 19-2 smith off gun brokers. Tried for bargain but when my dealer received it the rifling looks shiny but some of the lands are worn gone [ 1 or 2 ]. The rest look pretty well defined especially after 1 inch or so past forcing cone. Guns in lay away so I can't shoot it for awhile. What's the odds of it shooting descent. Also could Smith wesson remedy this or a gunsmith?
thanks

Here's few thoughts,
Check the gun, it might be fine. If shoots crazy or you get key-hole shots, you got a problem.
You might try using a bullet .001 larger than normal to see if that give a better bite to the rifling. (Just stay with in spec and don't do anything crazy)
You can have the barrel relined. Just get a good smith who has done that kind of work before.
The reline might be the best idea, esp. if the forcing cone is a eroded.
Best Wishes
Joe
