I have a friend who has a Mak that is doing strange things with hollowpoint ammo. It feeds round nose rounds just fine, but when it's loaded with hollowpoints, it only goes about halfway back into battery after ejecting a spent casing. However, if he then gives the magazine a slight push upwards on the baseplate, the slide goes forward and into battery. He's tried several different magazines, and I think he's gotten one that feeds reliably. Any thoughts?

Tried polishing the feedramp?

If pushing up on the magazine lets the cartridge feed then the fix is in the mag. I would look close at (in the following order) the follower, the spring, and the feed lips.

Another (but less likely) fix would be a replacement of the mag catch to hold the mag higher.

Also check the mag release/spring which holds the mag up. Check for wear. All those mags couldn't be bad IMO.

If he was useing Silver bear 120gr ammo, that was the problem.

Also HP's can catch on the bottom edge of the feed ramp or the chamber needs a polish. Bren

Not sure, but I think he's had the feed ramp polished. We'll check the rest out. Thanks guys!
