I own a Para Ordnance P-16 .40 cal that used to be the personal gun of my local gun store owner/smith so it is tricked out nicely including matt hardchrome and night sights. You guys know how it is though. Every now and then, you just HAVE to start a new project. Got to wanting a .357 SIG. SO---I ordered a .357 SIG barrel from Ed Brown.
Came in as 'semi drop-in'. Translation: IT DON'T FIT. SOOO-I couldn't STAND to wait till the 'smith could get to it and I tackeled the 20 min job. About 4.5 hours later, I had the barrel in, fitting TIGHTLY and functional by hand. (LOTS of cut a LITTLE/try, cut/try, polish/try, etc. etc. etc.) (Will give you my account of the instructions if you wish.)
Took her to the range this AM and ran a full box through the barrel. EXTREMELY accurate! Only 4 fail-to-feed mostly after it got dirty (maybe due to the tight fit). I think after a couple hundred rounds of break in and MAYBE a little more polish, it will be 100%. Recoil is NOT sharp but a little 'snappy' with a good bit of muzzle flip. All in all, very comfortable to shoot.
Shot some empty beer cans (NO, I did NOT empty them) filled with water. The 125 gr FMJ EXPLODED them like a hollow point from most other handguns.
I'm very happy with the outcome of the project and now have a very versitile gun. Just thought you guys might want to know that this is a very doable project and some of you might want to try something similar.
